Beverly Scanlon Obituary

BEVERLY KATHERINE SCANLON

October 25, 1945 – June 17, 2025

Beverly Katherine Scanlon passed away peacefully at home on June 17, 2025, surrounded by love.

Born on October 25, 1945, Beverly was the beloved daughter of a U.S. Navy serviceman. As a military child, she lived across the country before her family settled at Point Mugu Naval Air Base in California. She later made her home in Bakersfield, where she raised her family and dedicated her life to helping others.

Affectionately known as "Bev," she worked for the local school district in Bakersfield, CA, as a devoted teacher for students who were deaf or blind. Fluent in Braille and skilled in using a brailer, Beverly empowered her students with tools for independence and success. Her compassion and dedication changed lives.

She was the proud mother of three children: Colleen Scanlon, Timothy Scanlon, and Jeffrey Scanlon.

About eleven years ago, Beverly moved to Camarillo to care for her mother. Though she missed the warmth of Bakersfield, she embraced new friendships and purpose through community service. She was active in the Busy Bees and Crafters groups at the Goebel Adult Community Center in Thousand Oaks. Through the Conejo Senior Volunteer Program (CSVP), Beverly helped create over 2,000 handmade items each year – blankets, teddy bears, chemo caps, scarves, and more – which were donated to nonprofits including James Storehouse, Los Robles Hospital, Hospice of the Conejo, and the Autism Society.

She found joy in simple pleasures – watching National Geographic, caring for her cat Zoe, and enjoying her favorite salads at Valentino's in Camarillo, always warmly welcomed by her favorite server, Leo. She loved visiting Solvang and was a proud member of the Santa Barbara Zoo.

Beverly remained active, riding her stationary bike up to 10 miles a day and reading from her vast personal library. Her love of books enriched her life and fueled her lifelong curiosity.

Beverly will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and quiet strength. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, her students, and the many lives she touched through her giving spirit.

There will be no memorial service at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:

Yesterday

I only knew Beverly for eight hours when I took her to her last doctors appointment. She shared so much of her life. She had very interesting stories about growing up and her time with the Bakersfield school district. She was a very interesting lady . My husband was her mailman and we called in a well- being check on her when she did not pick up her mail. I learned so much in the short time I spent with her. Please let this be a reminder to check on your loved ones. No one should be found by their mailman. RIP Bev.
