Bill Eugene Smith
February 25, 1935 - February 2, 2021
As we honor life, embrace life and celebrate the uniqueness of life, I tell you about a man who will always encompass those who love him and with whom he loves. I follow with pleasant memories and knowledge of his life's successes.
Bill worked for and contracted with Chevron Oil for 67 years. Also, he took on many additional projects outside of Chevron. As known for his love of the land, Bill owned various properties. However, one notable achievement was developing his property, which he later subdivided as Buena Vista Estates with a partner. As exciting as it is, this is the first developed gated community located between the Buena Vista Golf Course and Buena Vista Lake! In continuance, he actively participated in other services, namely, the National Guard (veteran), Petroleum Club, and American Legion.
Activities he enjoyed: camping, fishing (deep sea and freshwater), waterskiing, backpacking, horse packing, branding, rodeos, Taft Oildorado celebrations, Country Western concerts, snow skiing, riding off-road vehicles, his red Corvette, hunting, barbecuing, cooking, hosting family & friend gatherings, Kern County Raceway, golfing, and swimming. As a competitive swimmer, he received "Championship" titles and many medals, representing Kern County.
Bill is preceded in death by his father and mother, Doyle & Erma Smith, brother-in-law and sister, Harry & Diane Krugh, son, Jimmy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Nancy (Toni) Smith, daughter-Dori, grandson-Adrien and wife Jennifer, great-grandsons: Carson, Smith, and Henry, grandson-Jordan & wife Abby, great-granddaughter-Zoe, along with extended family: an uncle, cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and a great-great niece.
Graveside Services will be held at the Westside Cemetery in Taft, California, on Friday, February 12, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. Long-time friend and co-worker Tim McCoy will officiate the ceremony. Erickson & Brown Funeral Home provided the preparation services.

I met Bill "Goose" over 40 years ago. He was an electrician for Chevron. I loved to hear all the stories that he and all the guys would tell. He was a great guy, and will be missed by many. May he rest in peace. Toni and family I am so sorry for your loss.
