Bruce Batch Obituary

Bruce Batch
January 25, 1942 - October 14, 2017

Bruce Alexander Batch went to be with the Lord on October 14th, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. He was born at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, CA on January 25th, 1942. He was baptized at St Francis Church and attended Rosedale Elementary School and graduated 8th grade from Toltec Elementary (Eloy, AZ). At 12 years of age, Bruce attended Colegio Regio in Hermosillo, Mexico for one year where he learned to speak fluent Spanish. Upon returning to Bakersfield he attended BHS and was ping-pong champion. During his senior year, he transferred to Wasco High graduating in 1960. He was an active member of Future Farmers of America (FFA) and won multiple awards showing animals in both the Kern County and State Fairs.

After graduating, Bruce moved to Oxnard, CA to work in construction for a few years after which he started an incredible journey working throughout the world, eventually becoming a large equipment mechanic. His travels took him to the Marshall Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam/Cameron Bay, during the Vietnam War, he worked for a private civil engineering firm building infrastructure. He then worked in Borneo/Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela as a drilling rig maintenance supervisor. In April 1975, Bruce married the love of his life, Lupe. They were married for 42 years.

Bruce took it upon himself to study the Bible and was an incredibly spiritual person. His entire family is forever grateful for his frequent teachings of the word of God. He was always the person to go to for advice on any level. His spirituality touched our lives in ways we can never describe and will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Bruce is preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Elnora Batch and Evelyn and Everton Hobson. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lupe, his sister Roxane Crawley, his children, Jane (John) Wedel, Elizabeth (Alan) Scroggs, and Richard Diaz Jr. along with his loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

We would like to thank Hoffman Hospice and the staff of CBCC for their hard work and dedication to Bruce's care.

A memorial service will be held at St. Francis Church, 900 H St., Bakersfield CA 93304, on Monday, October 23rd at 10:00 a.m. Lunch at Woolgrowers to follow.

For my dear friend Lupe. The loss of your dear Bruce is like a huge hole in your heart and life. No one can offer the perfect words or advice. He will always be missed. Your pain is fresh and raw right now. So know that people who love you and loved Bruce, are here for your support, a listening ear and to surround you and your family in love and prayer.

Dear Lupe, my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your husband Bruce. After reading his obituary, it appears Bruce lived a full life filled with many worldly experiences and adventures. Meeting you, falling in love with you was, without a doubt, the highlight of his life. I am sure that he immediately recognized the beautiful person and lovely soul that you are. What a blessing for you both! Holding you and your family close to my heart and keeping all of you in prayer my dearest lifelong amiga...love you!
