Carlos Bañales Obituary

Carlos R. Ba?les October 11, 1931 - August 15, 2012 Carlos was born in El Paso, Texas in the Chamisal. In the 1940's his family moved to East Los Angeles. Carlos was a golden glove boxer. He served in the National Guard. In 1952 he married Maria Luisa Nieto. During their 53 years together they raised 14 children. Carlos was a Union and political activist. He was an active member in numerous community and religious organizations. He worked for many years in Bakersfield as a community worker in the "War on Poverty." In his last years before retirement he was self-employed as a Grocer. Papa always enjoyed entertaining the children, telling stories and watching the grand and great- grandchildren play their sports. He liked car rides and he went on long walks until his health declined. Carlos was preceeded in death by his wife, Maria Luisa; parents Federico and Leonor; son, Carlitos; sisters, Enedina and Laura; brothers Tony and Eulalio; son-in-law Lee Slight; and his granddaughter, Brentina French. Carlos is survived by; his sister, Josefina Flores; his thirteen children and spouses; Rosalio and Linda K. Ba?les; Rebecca Slight; Miguel and Linda L. Ba?les; Alex Ba?les; Raquel and Cecil Valenzuela; Carlos and Marlena Ba?les; John and Kary Ba?les; Paul Ba?les; Mary and Gabriel Fimbres; Lupe and Richard Felix; Elizabeth Ba?les; Louie Ba?les ; Annie and Mike Rivera; twenty-seven grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren and forty seven nephews and nieces. Recitation of the Rosary will be Thursday, August 23rd 2012, 7:00P.M., at St. Joseph Church 1515 Baker St. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 24th at 10:30A.M., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
