Bakersfield It's with a heavy heart that we announce the death of Charles Rodriguez on July 5, 2023. Charlie was born November 5, 1942 in Goliad Texas. He served four years in the Army and then left his beloved Texas to find work in California. He landed in Bakersfield when his car refused to go any farther.

He attended meat cutting school back east and returned to Bakersfield to begin his career. Charlie had a good work ethic and was well liked by all his employers. He ran several meat counters over the years until he and a partner opened Fiesta Foods Charlie's Meats.

Charlie was an unabashed conversationalist and developed a wealth of friendships.

He was a community activist and held positions on several boards including Community Action Partnership, MAOF, SAL and was one of the founders of the Hispanic Chamber Of Commerce.

Charlie is survived by his partner of 29 years, Linda, sisters Helen, Elena, Santos and brothers Richard, Cheeto, David and Juan. He is also survived by sons Charles Jr. (Lisa), Jeremy (Danelle), and daughters Trina, Tina, Melissa, Veronica, Tanya (Luis), Nia (Mike). He was loved by his grandchildren Ashleigh, Tye, Nisa, Aaliyah, Trey, Marcus, Daniel, Richard, Charles III, Nathan, Michael, Carlos, Caden, Demi, Kayla, Dakota, Alex (Rebecca), Trinity, Brasen, Layla, Emma and many great grandchildren.

We would like to thank ADAKC for all the care and love they provided as well as Kaiser Permanente for their care and support in this difficult time.

Viewing will be held at Basham Funeral Care at 3312 Niles St on July 30, 2023 from 4-8 p.m. and services will be held on July 31, 2023 from 10:30 a.m. 12:00 p.m. followed by Graveside services at Bakersfield National Cemetery 30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd. Arvin at 1 p.m.
