Christopher Ennis Obituary

Christopher Ennis 1965 - 2008 Greenlawn Southwest Christopher Ennis went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 12, 2008 at the age of 43, after a long fight with a rare liver disease. He passed in the presence of his wife, family, friends and fellow CDF fire fighters. Chris loved people and was a blessing to all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Chris was born in Vallejo, California, and moved to Bakersfield at age six where he lived until his death. A graduate of West High School in 1983, Chris went on to earn an AA degree from Butte College. After college, Chris began his 17-year career as a fire fighter with Kern County Fire Department and then with the California Department of Forestry, earning the rank of Captain. Chris is survived by his loving wife, Sydney Felix Ennis; son, Evan (5 years old); parents, Harry and Maureen Ennis; sister, Stephanie; and brothers, Dan (Nancy), John, Jim (Sally), and Mark (Barbie). Chris' extended family include stepdaughters, Vanessa and Chelsea Felix, and Vanessa's daughter, Layla; mother and father-in-law, Richard and Hope Felix; brother-in-law, Rick Felix (Benie), sisters- in-law, Vickee Contreras (Richard), Patricia Rafal (Jake). An avid outdoorsman, Chris loved camping, backpacking and fishing. He loved spending time with his son, Evan, and camping with his extended family. Chris, also known as "Uncle Chris" to his 17 nieces and nephews, was always ready to play a game or watch one of their many sporting events. In lieu of flowers, Sydney requests any donations be sent to a Trust Fund for Evan Ennis set up by Kern Schools Federal Credit Union. A viewing will be held at Greenlawn Mortuary Southwest located at 2739 Panama Lane on Wednesday, October 15, at 5:00 p.m., with Rosary following at 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at St. Philip the Apostle Church located at 7100 Stockdale Highway on Thursday, October 16, at 9:30 a.m. Chris' family extends a special thanks to the CDF Firefighters and Honor Guard who have helped us through this difficult time.

Chris will be dearly missed. I worked with Chris while he was in Tulare County. He was a wonderful man; he was great to be around. I always looked forward for him working at my station. My thoughts and prayer go out to you and your family. God Bless You.

Chris Ennis, what a great guy you are. We both were in Mrs. Heasley's 4th grade class at Van Horn. Also attended school with him at Thompson and West. Sounds to me like he lived his life the same he did when we were kids - kind, generous, and someone who called it like it is. Thanks for the privilege, old friend.

I send my prayers to you and your family. I went to West High with Chris and shared a beverage or two with him back in the day. It has been years since I have seen him but I can't think but smile when I think of him as he was always the nicest guy. God Bless your family.

Chris - First person I met in Bakersfield in 1971. In fact the day we moved to Bakersfield was Chris' 6th bday,, 1/25/71. Mrs. Ennis and Chris came and invited me, the new kid, to his birthday party. That was the beginning of a long friendship that i wish we had kept up. I'll always cherish playing football in the front yard of the Ennis', sleepovers with the famous Ennis' family breakfast, J.B.A. teams, or nerf hoops in the barrel you name it -- Chris was always a class act and caring friend. We've lost a good one and it saddens me deeply.

My prayers to Chris' wife and family. And to Mr. and Mrs. Ennis , Dan, John, Steph, Jim and Mark, it's been a long while. Peace to you. .

Scanning the Californian on-line this AM, I am very saddened to learn about Chris' passing. A good friend during during jr. high, highschool and many years to follow, I never can recall a time he wasn't the happiest, most positive guy in the room. Although I haven't seen Chris for many years, his huge smile and tremendous character are as vivid as ever. My heart and prayers go out to your family. God Bless you buddy...you will be missed!

My prayers go out to Chris's family and close friends. I first met Chris at West High School while playing sports and other at friend type gatherings. He definetly had a personality that drew you in and made you feel like you were life long friends. When I think back about the great times I had at WHS, he is/will always be part of them.

Chris and I went to West High and were in the same Contemporary Life class taught by Mr. Gabbitas.
As it turned out he was my 'husband' in the class. I remember him being very kind, respectful, and fun loving.
In recent years I ran into Chris at various restaurants while dining with my husband, he never stopped being the kind and friendly person I remembered from high school.
My heart goes out to his entire family! Our prayers will be with all of you during this time of grief & transition.
Our deepest sympathies,
B.Jill Grover-West & Bob West

I send my love to the family. Chris was a very close friend whom I've known since childhood. We shared a lot of memories. Though I am so sorry that I can not be there for his services he will always be in my heart and I will miss him.
