Recitation of the Rosary will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd., Sunday, July 21, at 7:00 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, July 22, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Francis Church, 900 H St., for Connie Devora Gonzales, 74, who passed away July 18, 2002.
This is dedicated to Connie Devora Gonzales, also known as Nana to her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She was born on October 17, 1929, in Fresno, California to Pedro Devora and Mary Portillo Villalobos. As a young lady she picked grapes in San Jose, where she met her one true love Lolo Gonzales. They eloped on September 16, 1949 and moved to Bakersfield where they started their family of six sons and one daughter. She dedicated her life to her husband and children. She dedicated her life to her husband and children. She worked as a housekeeper for prominent families in Bakersfield for 30 years, finally retiring in 1992.
Nana enjoyed the company of her children and loved cooking wonderful food for them. Her favorite pastime was her visits she planned with her husband, family and friends to the El Cortez Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Connie was a simple person who expected nothing from anyone, but was always willing to help others in any way she could. After the passing of her true love, Lolo, she continued being the strength of her family. She enjoyed watching football and golf with her sons. On a typical day, she could be found watching television on her living room couch. Connie truly loved all her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Lolo L. Gonzales, her son John D. Gonzales and her sister, Lupe Garcia. She leaves behind her only daughter Diane Sanchez and husband Frank, sons Ruben and wife Terri, David and wife Yolanda, Jimmy Gonzales, Eddie Gonzales and wife Julie, Tim Gonzales and wife Estella; 23 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four sisters Helen, Jessica, Rosie and Carmen; two brothers Victor Villalobos and Frank Devora.
Casketbearers will be Frankie Sanchez Jr., Reggie Gonzales, Michael Gonzales, Timothy Gonzales Jr., Casey Gonzales, Albert Sanchez, and Josh Gonzales. Honorary casketbearers will be Tom Gonzales and Robert Gonzales.
Visitation begins today Sunday, at 12:00 p.m.
