Brother Daniel Joseph OConnor, FSC

Brother Daniel Joseph OConnor, FSC was born in County Kerry, Ireland, on October 11, 1923, to Daniel OConnor and Bridget Lawlor, both of County Kerry, Ireland. He was a member of the De La Salle Christian Brothers for 61 years and died in Napa, California, on December 29, at the age of 80. Through his many years as a Brother in the District of San Francisco, Brother Daniel served in many roles throughout the District. He served at Sacred Heart High School, San Francisco from 1946 to 1956 as a teacher; he served at Garces Memorial High School, Bakersfield from 1956 to 1959 and again from 1969 to 1970 as a teacher and Sub-Director of the Brothers Community; he served at Bishop Armstrong High School, Sacramento as a teacher from 1962 to 1966; from 1970 to 1988 he served at San Joaquin Memorial High School, Fresno as a teacher, a counselor, and at times as either Director or Sub-Director of the Brothers Community; from 1988 to 2003 he served as a part-time counselor at Justin-Siena High School, Napa. In his younger years he was honored as an athletic coach and particularly by track athletes of San Joaquin Memorial during the 70s.

Br. Daniel is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Patricia Jerrold of Rialto, CA and Mrs. Bridget Nisbet of Saint Charles, MO, and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be at Mont La Salle, Napa, California on January 2nd at 10:00 a.m., in the Mont La Salle Chapel with burial following in the Brothers Cemetery. The body may be viewed beginning at 9:00 a.m. prior to the funeral liturgy. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Lasallian Education Fund, De La Salle Institute, 4401 Redwood Road, Napa, CA 94558.
