Dave Moore Obituary

Dave was born in Athens, Ohio, and raised in Parkersburg, West "by God" Virginia. He served in both the U. S. Marine Corp and the U.S. Army. After being discharged from the Army in 1960, he came to Bakersfield to play for the B.C. Renegade football team. During that time he met his future wife, Carol Welch, to whom he has been married to for 50 years.
Dave worked in the oil field industry for many years until he opened a travel agency which he owned for 16 years until his retirement in 2000. He and Carol were privileged to travel to many places.
One of Dave's biggest enjoyments came when he coached the boys in his daughter's class at St. Francis School in sports, primarily football. All 4 years his team was undefeated. He had a nickname for just about every boy that played for him. For 6 years he managed the St. Francis bingo and started several fund raisers to support the school and the various sports and extra curricular activities programs.
Dave joined the Knights of Columbus #977 50 years ago and held many offices including Grand Knight twice. He was the Color Corp commander for the past 20 years. During this time the Color Corp served the various Catholic churches in Kern County in particular during Confirmation ceremonies and other functions when the Bishop from the Fresno diocese was present. Dave initiated and became the first president of the newly formed Kern-Inyo Chapter of the Knights of Columbus. For many years he has been the manager of the Knights of Columbus hall.
Dave was a true man. If you needed help regardless if it was personal, emotional or financial, he was there for you. If he couldn't help, he knew someone who could. At Christmas time, he started a Knights program of adopting a needy family and provided whatever they needed. He was loved by many people and returned the favor.
Dave's family adored him. He was always there through thick and thin. He was grandpa to many relatives who had no grandfather. He strongly believed every child needed a grandpa.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, brother, James Russell Currey, daughter, Cara Rodriguez, grandchildren, Chelsea and Justin Boyd and Brooklyn Rodriguez and many nieces and nephews and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
Dave was predeceased by his mother, Lula Currey and brother, Lonnie Currey.

Rosary will be recited at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Monday, April 28 at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, River Boulevard.
