David Selzam Obituary

David Theodore Selzam, Sr., 96, passed peacefully at home with his family on Dec. 1 after battling Alzheimer's. Born in Springfield, Mass. May 15, 1919 to Theodore Frederick and Ellen Mather Selzam, the only son of 5 siblings.
He was a member of DeMolay. Served with the U.S. Marine Air Corps during WWll through the Korean conflict reaching the rank of Master Sergeant. He served in the South Pacific on Samoa and New Hebrides Islands.
Personnel Director most of his career in several locations: Ohio (Toledo Scale), Texas (Convair), Nevada (Sunrise Hospital), Indiana (St. Margaret Hospital) and California (Mercy Hospitals in San Diego and Bakersfield).
Interests included: reading, particularly relating to Westerns, spy thrillers and wars; writing "The Bugler" newsletter for his unit MAG-24 for 10 yrs. (before illness), gardening, VFW Post, woodworking, volunteer with: ARC (boardmember and Special Olympics Floor Hockey), SPCA (Pet Therapy), creating "Maguiver-like" solutions and time with his family.
Preceded in death by his parents, sisters Marjorie Hess, Ruth Rund, Dorothy Allyn, and Jeanross Wood, his infant son Jonathan and his daughter, Meredith Kinsohita.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Patricia, his sons, David Jr. and Christopher, and daughter Elizabeth, his grandchildren, Sommer (Mike) Philpott, Danielle Kinoshita, Darren Kinoshita, Scott Selzam, Alana Trejo, Andrea Trejo (Summer) Selleck and great-granddaughter, Hannah Philpott.
Special thanks to Dr. Memon and the ProCare Hospice Team: Pastor Erwen, Ginny, Rosalee, David, Vinny, Lilly, Brenda, Courtney, Maria and Chaplain Findley for their professional and compassionate care.
Memorial service will be held Friday, December 11 at 2pm at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Blvd.
Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Disease Association of Kern County, BARC or SPCA.
