David Williams Obituary

DAVID HUGH WILLIAMS

March 15, 1934 – December 20, 2024

Bakersfield – David Hugh Williams, born on March 15, 1934, in Arkansas to James T. and Thelma Williams, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, in Bakersfield, California. His life was marked by love, dedication, and service to his family and community.

In 1943, David's family moved from Oklahoma to California, settling in Lamont after living in the Sunset Labor Camp. He attended Lamont School, Mt. View Jr. High, and graduated from Arvin High School in 1952. Pursuing further education at Bakersfield College, he earned a certificate in Management through night school.

David served proudly in the United States Air Force for four years, stationed in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. It was there he met and married Olive May Moore on July 4, 1955. Their remarkable union spanned 69 years.

David's career showcased his hard work and leadership. He began as an apprentice for AB Dick before working as a milkman for Wayne's Dairy, a salesman for Bay-Valley Industrial Supply, and a dispatcher for the California Highway Patrol in Bakersfield. He later thrived in the title business with Title Insurance and Trust Company and Chicago Title in Illinois before returning to Bakersfield as President and Manager of Century Title. Under his leadership, Century Title expanded across Kern County. In his later years, David worked with several realty companies before retiring from Roberson Realty with his broker's license to focus on family.

An active community member, David was involved with the Bakersfield Lions Club and was a Mason, Shriner, and Scottish Rite member. He also served as President of the Kern County Board of Trade from 1988 to 1990.

David was preceded in death by his sister Joyce; brothers Dillard and Donald; and sister Kolean. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Olive; son Kevin (Wendy) Williams; daughter Kimberly (Todd) Schrock; brother Darrell (Donna) Williams; sister-in-law Helen Williams; grandchildren Amanda (Brett) Tomlinson, Tori (Coy) Townson, Hailey (Austin) Livesay, and Zachary Williams; great-grandchildren Elsie and Emmy Townson and Juniper Tomlinson; many nieces and nephews; and his loyal canine companion, Daisy.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Raquel, Lisa, and Daniela for their compassionate care over the past several years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bakersfield Breakfast Lions Club at P.O. Box 1349 - Bakersfield, CA 93302.

Funeral services are scheduled for January 8, 2025, at 10:15 a.m. at the National Cemetery near Arvin, California.

David's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

I have many memories of times at my mom's house with Dave & Ollie and all the laughs we shared. I was so blessed to have had the chance to talk to Dave just before he passed to share Christmas greetings. He was such a treasure.

On behalf of my mother and brother (Ruth Beck, David Beck Sr.), I send my love and prayers to the entire family.

School days, first thru graduation 1952. David was a business man, a family man and a friend. His brother was married to my sister, so i guess in some ways we were related. the last time we visited was our 1952 class reunion, enjoyed that time with David and his wife Ollie. we send our condolence, for the loss of a special man.
