Don Doolin Obituary

Graveside service will be on Friday, June 2nd 9:30 A.M. for Don Doolin at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Park, 2739 Panama Lane. Don Doolin passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 in Bakersfield, CA. He was born on May 29, 1914 in Trenton, Missouri. Don retired after 36 years as an educator. He attended Trenton Junior College from 1933-1935, University of Missouri 1935-1937, and University of California for three years. Don and his wife Juanita(now deceased) have two children. Don served as a Navy officer in WW II. Since then he had been a high school principal as well as a junior college and a high school teacher. He retired after 20 years in the Navy Reserves as a Lt. Commander. Don served as the post commander of Bakersfield American Legion Post #26 and the Veterans day Parade Chairman for 26 years. In addition, Don served as councilman and vice mayor of Bakersfield for 12 years. He was also chairman of Kern County Democrats and president of Bakersfield Faculty High School Club. Don was a loving father who took exceptional care of Diana, over the past 11 years since her mother passed away. If they were not at the Legion Hall on Friday night having dinner, you could find them at Molly J's or Denny's. Don's love for his cats lead him into a special relationship of 50 years with Bakersfield Veterinarian Clinic. His support of many other organizations that loved animals will always be appreciated and remembered. Don is survived by his son, Gary Donald Doolin of Hawaii; daughter, Diana Kay Doolin of Bakersfield; friend for 48 years and guardian of Diana, Carolyn Denio; sister-in-law, Roylene Doolin of Lemon Grove, CA; niece and spouse, Benny and Kay Baucom. He is also survived by other family and friends. Don is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Juanita in 1994 and also two brothers, Darl C. Doolin and Frank Doolin. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday 3:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Don Doolin May 29, 1914 - May 23, 2006 Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary
