Dorothy Gungle Obituary

Dorothy Elizabeth Gungle, 81, passed away April 25, 2006. She was born October 9, 1924 in Adrian, Minnesota to Arnold and Anna Fischenich, the 10th of their 15 children. She was raised and educated in Sioux Falls, South Dakota then came to Los Angeles with her sister Margie, just a few dollars, and her philosophy of "I can do anything I set my mind to". She lived in several places in Kern County, including Wasco where she met her life long friend Gladys. In 1960 she moved to Bakersfield with her late husband (Aldon) and two children. Dorothy retired from Bank of America after a 33 year career. She motivated perfection from others at work through her "lead by example" attitude. Despite her many physical challenges, she demonstrated perseverance with a positive outlook. Dorothy's favorite activities included travel, dressing up, and shopping for jewelry, china and table linens. She loved sweets, especially donuts and the perfect margarita at Applebee's. She and her husband Ed traveled the world and they spent many summers in Show Low, Arizona. Some of her favorite times were spent playing "Blackjack" in Laughlin with her grandchildren. She demonstrated repeatedly to her family that they were adored, cherished and loved by her. She was a great joke-teller who enjoyed making those around her laugh. She loved to sing and dance, she also loved to play her omni chord. Dorothy loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was preceded into heaven by her parents and 10 of her siblings and many dear friends. Her family will forever cherish her memory: her husband, Edward J. Gungle, DDS; sisters, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Rosie Dragotto, brothers, Sonny and Wilma and Donnie and Mary Fischenich. Her beloved son, Arnie and Setsuko Rose and daughter, Deni and Ralph Gonzales. Her adored grandchildren Rachel and Eric Farmer, Alan and Liz Rose, Kristine and Steve Monighetti, Christopher and Katie Gonzales, Amber and Jeff Chaddick, and Anthony Gonzales; great-grandchildren, Jordan Burris, Taylor and Jacob Chaddick, Ashley and Aidan Rose, and Samantha Monighetti. Roger and Gwen Rose. Dorothy's stepchildren; Paul, John, Lisa, Diane, and Jeanie Gungle and their families. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, April 5th, 2006, at 11 a.m., at St. Francis Catholic Church with a "Celebration of her life" at 1 p.m. for family and friends at the Four Points Sheraton. The family requests that in honor of Dorothy's life, you stop and enjoy something beautiful for a moment. Dorothy Elizabeth Gungle Oct. 9, 1924 - Apr. 25, 2006
