Douglas Younger Obituary

Bakersfield Douglas Kennard Younger of Bakersfield, CA went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 18, 2023, at the age of 85. Douglas was born in Douglas, Arizona on March 1, 1938, to Frances E. Younger and Elaine E. (Rogers) Younger.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Younger, and their 3 children Corinna (John) Shields, Kent (Trish) Younger, and Mathew (Sheri) Younger. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his siblings Janet Snedeker, Beverly Gumz, Cole (Tammi) Younger and Jenna Pierson. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Roger Younger, John Younger, and Floyd Younger.
Doug worked for Safeway/Vons for 38 years and retired in 1995. Doug had an adventurer's heart. He loved the mountains, the desert, and any road he had never been down. His friends would say he was gentle and kind and a quiet mentor to those around him. His children would say that the greatest gift they ever had came from God and they called him Dad.
A memorial service will be held 10 AM, August 4, 2023, at RiverLakes Community Church, 4301 Calloway Drive, Bakersfield, CA 93312.
In lieu of flowers, donations to RiverLakes Community Church Missions for The Broom Tree Refuge are requested.

I had the great pleasure of working with Doug at Safeway back in the 70's at the Niles St store. His obituary read "gentle and kind." No truer words were ever spoken. My condolences to Doug's family.
