DUANE D. SHOFFNER
1932 - 2018
Duane was born Feb 9, 1932 in Ft. Collins, CO to Raymond and Martha Shoffner. Duane's parents brought Duane and his five-year-old sister, Romayne, to Sunnyvale, CA. in 1934.
In high school, he was active on the debating team, student law and speech. He won the statewide speech contest for his school and served both semesters of his senior year as Student Body President.
Graduating in 1950, he enrolled in San Jose State. The Korean War had started. He put college on hold and joined the Air Force. He was sent to Germany! There he met and married an auburn haired Air Force nurse, Madeline (Lynn) Reimers from New York.
After the military, they returned to New York. A son, Mark was born. They came west, building a home in Saratoga, CA. They had three more children: David, Nancy and Steven. All four children have become fine, successful and contributing adults.
Duane worked for Owens Corning Fiberglas for over 20 years. He was a licensed pilot for twenty-five years. In 1973, a new job took them to Bakersfield. He retired early. Duane & Lynn had sampled the RV life and found they were very much at home away from home. They toured all reachable areas by road of the North American Continent for twenty-eight years, logging almost 170,000 towing miles. They were always back home for the arrival of new grandbabies.
Later, his lifelong hobby of photography allowed Duane to send colorful photos and letters of encouragement to countless shut-ins. He received special recognition for this work.
Duane leaves his wife Lynn, son Mark (Robyn), son David (Janine), daughter Nancy, (Mike) and son Steve (Julie). Duane also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Linda Logan Locatelli (formerly Linda Woolsey)

Just found out that Duane had gone to his reward. What a great man he was. We spent many wonderful hours around the campfire with Duane and Lynn at Wishon Village. He communicated by mail with my mother when she was battling breast cancer and offered her much encouragement and shared many of his wonderful photographs with us. Such and dear man and one of a kind! God speed, Duane! Much love from the Logan and Locatelli families. (Duane knew me as Linda Woolsey.)
