Emma Geronimo Obituary

Emma Cortez Geronimo 1935 - 2010 Emma Cortez Geronimo was born on May 6, 1935, and passed away peacefully at her home on November 26, 2010. She was born to Jesus and Bertha Cortez in Shafter, Texas and moved to Lamont, California in 1952 where she resided for the remainder of her life. Emma worked as a farmworker beside her beloved son and companion, Andy for countless years, refusing to retire and just finished the fall season in October. Emma is preceded in death by her husband, Andy and siblings, Elva Tabada, Willie Cortez, Joe Cortez, Henry Cortez, Frankie Cortez, and Carlos Ortiz. She leaves behind children: Andy Buendia, Millie Kovacevich (John), Linda Adams, Ida Sullivan (Barry), Ernie Geronimo (Kristie); grandchildren: Gabriel Adame (Nikki), Anthony Adame (Jessica), Christopher Ramos, Tyler Sullivan, and Nicholas Geronimo; great- grandchildren: Gabriel Adame, Mark Adame, Hannah Orpe, and Noah Adame; siblings: Cruz Torres, Ruben Cortez, Charlie Cortez, Eduardo Cortez; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Everything and everyone blossomed and thrived under Emma's love and care. One of her favorite pastimes was working in her garden, growing the sweetest fruits, the juiciest tomatoes, and the most healthy and succulent flowers and plants. Emma's greatest passion was surrounding herself with loved ones throughout the year, feeding and laughing with them while she stood in her kitchen making sure your belly was content. She knew everyone's favorite food, and made sure she had it made or in her pantry for them every time they came to visit. There were times when she had several different dishes made during a simple Sunday family dinner to make sure that everyone had what they wanted. For the grandchildren, there were always Cheetos, Otter Pops, freshly baked cookies, and gum. Anyone who walked through Emma's doors was made into a friend for a lifetime, overlooking their flaws and always accepting them for who they were. The relationships she created with each friend and family member was unique, and that person made a special place in their heart that only Emma could fill. Just having the honor of knowing and loving her, made you a better person. Services for Emma will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park. A viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 1, from 4:00-7:00 and a Rosary at 7:00. Mass will be on Thursday, Dec. 2, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Augustine Church in Lamont, with a graveside service to immediately follow. www.bakersfield.com/obits

My dear friend Ida, there are no words that can express how deeply sorry I am for the loss of your Mom. Your mom was a remarkable lady. She always had a beautiful smile on her face. I enjoyed working with her very much. We had lots of laughs out there in those grapevines. I am so glad to have known her and learned from her. She leaves a strong legacy in her family. Be very proud! All my prayers
