EMMA MOONEY Obituary
1935 - 2022
Emma Mooney was born to Hickle and Annie Brown on November 7th, 1935 in Featherston, Oklahoma. One of four children, her family migrated to California during the Dust Bowl days in 1945. She passed away peacefully on December 13th, 2022.
Emma grew up in Lamont, California, attending school there and at Arvin High School. She met and fell in love with William LeRoy Mooney, a box boy at a local grocery store in Lamont. They were married on June 26th, 1955 and were together until his death on February 4th, 2016.
She worked for the Lamont School District for several years, where she ran a reading tutoring program and served as a teacher's aide. While out and about, she would often hear Mrs. Mooney! only to find a past student who was happy to see her again.
Emma was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and Nana. She was a marvelous cook who specialized in pies, chocolate cake, cookies, gumbo, fried chicken, and okra. Her hobbies included oil painting, sewing, quilting, embroidering, reading, and making countless homemade crafts. Like her mother she loved plants, especially succulents. She always had numerous plants decorating her patio and windowsill. She was known for having a green thumb and rarely giving up on a struggling plant.
She was welcomed into Heaven by her husband LeRoy and her family Annie, Hickle, Mary, HB, Kenny, Jasper, and Monty. She will be cherished and missed by her daughters, Jayne and Rebecca, her sons-in-law, Charles and Michael, and her family Heidi, Kate, Alex, Erik, Lee, Lucy, Max, Emma, Owen, Gina, Dave, Mark, Tom, Kim, Josh, and Xavier.
Emma's family would like to thank her amazing caregiver, Rachel Taylor, who loved and cared for Emma as if she were family. Her family would also like to recognize the wonderful care she received at Pacifica Senior Living and Hoffmann Hospice.
Emma will be laid to rest at the Bakersfield National Cemetery on January 6, 2023, at 12:30 PM.

Last night i had a dream of my grandma Alice Duncan and all her siblings.I recall my Aunt Annie was my dad's (Billy Ray) favorite and I have a picture of them both I treasure. I remember Cubby always stopping by and visiting my grandparents home on Stobaugh st in Lamont,always with a smile and so kind and caring.I want to pass along my condolences to all the remaining family for your loss of Emma Jane- Jean (Cubby),i pray we will meet again.
