Billie
Services: Sat., July 19, 9:30 a.m.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2003, at 9:30 a.m., at Hillcrest Mortuary, East, for Ethel Billie McPhetridge, 87, of Bakersfield. Mrs. McPhetridge passed away quietly Friday, July 11, 2003, in Bakersfield, California.
Billie was born to Frank and Lucy Raynolds in Ward Springs, Oklahoma, on February 3, 1916, and moved with her husband, Speck, to the Bakersfield area in 1937. For a time she worked for local farmers and then settled in to raising their son, Ralph, and assisting Speck with McPhetridge Trucking Company, which they ran for 44 years until they retired in 1989.
Their house was a gathering point for family and friends alike and she would ask you to stay by asking, Whats your rush? The door was always open and we all loved to spend time there. She was passionate about their garden and you would always be sent home with something they grew or you freshly picked. Billie was a lifelong member of many groups, which include The Royal Neighbors, The Fairfax Grange and her monthly Bunco group.
She deeply loved her family and is survived by her loving son, Ralph; grandchildren, Lori Baker, Michael McPhetridge, and Terry McPhetridge; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Leslie and Cory Baker, Jourdan McPhetridge and Jennifer, Emily, T.J. and Hannah McPhetridge; sisters, Deanie Talley and Bernice Copeland and many nieces and nephews which she considered her children.
Visitation will be Friday 4-8 p.m., at Hillcrest Mortuary, East. Pallbearers will be Ralph, Michael and Terry McPhetridge, Reford Clagg, Jeff Sanders and Rick Talley. Honorary Pallbearers are Brad McPhetridge, Chuck McPhetridge and Ernie Talley.
