Etta Lynch Obituary

Etta Lynch (Swank) May 16, 1933 - November 17, 2013 Funeral services for Etta Lynch (Swank) will be held at the Bakersfield National Cemetery on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. Mom grew up in a large, active, loving family, being the second born of 5 children. She met her future husband, George Lynch, through her brother older brother Bill and they were married over 50 years. Mom was very active in her children's lives, as PTA President at Pioneer Drive Elementary for several years, East High Booster Club, Cub Scout leader, Brownie's and Camp Fire Girls, and starting the first Bobby Sox Softball program in Kern County. Our mom was one of the ultimate neighborhood moms to all the kids that grew up on Lexington Avenue. She worked at Kern County Municipal Court for many years, and has several of her "court ladies" that remained friends after retirement. Her later years were involved in her beloved church, Coronado Baptist, where she served as the Womens Ministry Leader. Mom and dad enjoyed traveling through the desert, and had many memorable trips to Laughlin, NV. After dads passing in 2010, mom began her cancer fight. We would like to thank Dr Rizbud, Molly, Roger and the rest of the Kaiser Oncology Staff for your loving care. Etta is preceded in death by her husband, George Lynch; her sons, Sammy and Greg Lynch; her grandson, Adam Lynch; and her brother, Dick Swank. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George and Hilly Lynch; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Steven DeGraaf; daughter-in-law, Loida Lynch; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Betty Swank; sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Bert Johnson; grandsons, Edvin and Jeremy Lynch; granddaughters, Chandler and Caycie DeGraaf and Amanda Lynch; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Well Etta , I’m not sure what Don had to say when he showed up, but I’m sure it was something funny. Now you have all three of your brothers up there to look after you. I’m sure George had some good stories to share. All of you Rest In Peace

Etta, I only had you in my life for 50 years, From being my Cub Scout Leader with a huge heart, to my County Employee co-worker with strong work ethics, to being our close family friend. Your pain is gone but you left us with a little pain of our own: feeling sorry for ourselves. Thank you.

Aunt Mae you will be in my heart always. I will always remember our family times in Bakersfield. Thoes were memorable times, family gathered around at grandmas drinking ice tea in grandmas front yard. The times you would chase us kids out side with the fly swatter and laughing the whole time. You coming over to grandmas after work and sitting at my feet so I can brush your hair, going to the park for family BBQ and the vacation to Hawaii!
You are my dad Don Swanks Sister and I was blessed to have you as my Aunt. Rest in peace Aunt Mae I love you?

Etta was a very, very special person. We met many years ago through our membership at Coronado Baptist Church. She was always busy helping someone, being kind, and sharing the Joy of the Lord that filled her life. I had many occasions to spend time with her as she frequently rented cars from Enterprise Rent A Car...I was privileged to return her to her home on numerous occasions. Her personal car had problems and being a car nut I was able to direct her to some reliable repair shops. Etta once shared with me to desire to publish some of her late husband, George's, historical recollections here in Bakersfield...even when she was ill, she always kept pushing to do something for those she loved and cared for. I will deeply miss her and have some very fond memories to cherish.
