George Marion Cummings Jr.
September 16, 1931 - February 1, 2021
George Marion Cummings Jr. of Bakersfield California, born 9/16/1931 in Bakersfield, advanced from his earthly home to his eternal home in Heaven on February 1, 2021.
He is survived by his son, Bob Cummings and daughters, Sherry Williams, Terri Nelson and Kat Dodd. He has numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was the youngest of 4 siblings brought up to value and enjoy hard work. He continued that work ethic throughout his life.
George was a veteran and retired from the USAF in 1971 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He served in both Vietnam and Korea. He served 4 years in the US Army and 23 years in the US Air Force. He was a patriot who believed in our inalienable rights especially the rights of free speech and to bear arms. Among his numerous awards and commendations earned in the service are: The Purple Heart, USAF Commendation Medal, Outstanding Unit Award, American Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Korean Service Medal, 2 Vietnam ribbons, Distinguished Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, USAF Longevity Service Award, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Foreign Service ribbon, Small Arms Expert ribbon and the California State Governor's Award.
He was an avid knife collector and dealer and took greater joy in a good trade than a good purchase. He loved buying new cars so you never knew what he would be driving next. More than anything, he loved his family and friends. He leaves us broken hearted but rejoicing that he is now in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. He had no fear of death because he knew that to be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord. As 2 Timothy 4:7 states, He "fought the good fight, (he) has finished the race, (he) kept the faith." We, who are left behind, do not grieve like those without hope but we, who are Christians, know we will see him again one day.
Full military honors service will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery when guest attendance restrictions are lifted.
Please no flowers.

Sad to hear of Mr. Cummings passing. I used to help him when I worked at the local BMW dealership when he would bring it in for service. It was always a pleasure to help & chat with a man of such high character. He always reminded me of my grandfather that fought in WWII, great men! He also once inspected my grandfather's Samurai sword he brought home from Japan (WWII). It was really special to get his expertise and spend a little quality time with him, I really appreciated him doing that for me. Very proud to have known him, anyone was very lucky to have been able to call him a friend or family member. God Bless, gone but never forgotten!!

I had no idea Uncle Gea passed. I´ll truly miss our talks and too infrequent visits huddled around photo albums.

George will be missed so greatly. He was a true gentleman and great friend. Always enjoyed seeing him once a year,on our trip to California.
