Gerald Hoff Obituary

Gerald Leon Hoff (Gerry) Mar. 19, 1939 - Feb. 20, 2006 Gerald Leon (Gerry) Hoff, 66, of Bakersfield, CA, passed away on February 20, 2006. Gerry had a sense of humor and passion for life that was embraced by everyone he touched. Gerry was born in Taft, CA on March 19, 1939. He attended Bakersfield High School, where he excelled in Track and Field and Basketball. At the same time, Gerry caught the "music bug", as he came to love Jazz and Blues, and especially the new kid on the block, Rock-N-Roll. He graduated from Fresno State University and moved first to San Francisco and then Los Angeles as an employee of London Records during the 60's. Gerry moved to England, and from 1971-1977 was the Promotions Manager for The Moody Blues and President of Threshold Records. Returning to Los Angeles, Gerry perfected his abilities as VP of A&R at Phonogram/Mercury Records. During the 1980's, Gerry turned his talents toward promotion, working for Warner Brothers Records. Finally, Gerry tried his hand at independent promotion, working records by notable acts such as The Gap Band, and A-Ha. In 1993, he retired from the music business after more than 30 years in the industry. Gerry is survived by his loving daughters, Erica (Phoenix, AZ) and Lesley (Valencia, CA), and his four grandchildren, Corey, Amber, Emily, and Gryffon. Gerry was a devoted father and grandfather, and his family was his true passion. He will be missed by all who knew him. Legacy.com

I, like Malinda, have been looking up friends ...too late. I remember Gerry because he was so cute. But he was older than I and so not interested in me. This was when 4 was the same as 30 in kid years. Then he went to BHS, & I went to EB.
Mt mother worked with his mother, and so I kept up with him and his exciting life that way. My mother suggested to his mother that I had always admired him & his progress in life "for a Bakersfield Kid."
When traveling in England I caught the train to Surrey to see him. He wasn't home, but I spoke briefly to one of his little daughters. Yes, the sweet child spoke with a lovely accent that worried her mother.
Gerry's mother was sadly developing Alzheimer's and so was mine. They lost touch with each other, and I lost even the 2nd-degree touch with Gerry.
I still love The Moody Blues & a-ha, & I think of Gerry, cute & smart & successful escapee from Bakersfield.

I was just looking up old friends and came across this message. I am deeply saddened that I did not look him up sooner. I worked with Gerry at the Breneman Review back in 1990-1991. We called him Uncle Gerry. He was a terrific friend who I miss very much. He was very encouraging and liked my Rhodan impressions. He gave me good advice and I never got to thank him for it. If you are listening Gerry. Thanks for everything man. God Bless..

I remember Gerry from Bakersfield High School, class of 1956. He was quite the artist. He caught one of our teachers riding his bike to school and drew a very funny picture of this. I laughed so hard when he passed the picture to me, the teacher sent me out of the class until I "could control myself". I saw Gerry a couple of years ago when he was working for the credit control company and we had a nice visit. I am so sorry to hear he is no longer here. I was looking forward to seeing him at our 50th class reunion this year.
