Born in Abilene, Texas on November 3, 1921 to Jess and Virgie Monroe, Geri was the first of five Monroe children. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers: Leon, Dick, Ed, and Bill Monroe.

The Monroe family relocated to Bakersfield in the late 1920s where Geri graduated Kern County Union High School, now Bakersfield High School, and served on the student council.

She met her husband, Darrel Clifford Burdick, at the Tegeler Hotel in Bakersfield where he was working as an elevator operator and served locally in the US Army Air Corps at Minter Field. Geri was working in the beauty shop of the hotel. Geri and Darrel were married on June 28, 1941. Her beloved Darrel passed on August 29, 2003.

In 1954, Geri and Darrel moved their family to Phoenix, Arizona where Geri went on to get her realtors license and continued to work in the Phoenix area until the family returned to Bakersfield in 1960. Geri moved to Lincoln City, Oregon in 2019 where her bedroom looked out over the ocean. She enjoyed the cooler coastal weather of Oregon.

Geri had two children: daughter Kathleen Susan Heiser and her husband Stephen R. Nicholas; son Larry Darrel Burdick; and three grandchildren: Jim Heiser, Sammie (deceased) and Charlin Burdick, She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Services are to be held outside at Hillcrest Memorial Park on November 3, 2021 at 11:00 am, which would have been her 100th birthday. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Darrel on the Hill of Valor.
