Services for Ima will be held March 24, 2003, 11:00 a.m., in the Doughty-Calhoun-OMeara chapel on Truxtun Ave.
Ima Jean was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, October 28, 1930, to Tom and Irene Harkey. Ima was the oldest of five children. The family came to Bakersfield, CA, in the early 40s. Ima took the nickname of Pat Harkey in her early teens and loved to be called Pat.
Pat Harkey met the love of her life and was married to Eule Howard at the age of 15, and started her family of five children. Pat worked at Foothill High School in the cafeteria from 1965-1970. Pat also did the bookkeeping and payroll for the family business. Pat was an expert seamstress, creating beautiful gowns and dresses for family and friends. Pat could also cook and sew and make something out of nothing. Pat also loved to paint and we have many beautiful paintings. In the early 70s she developed Rheumatoid Arthritis. The disease slowly took her talents, and slowly consumed her body. Pat never gave up and was always fighting for the next day to do something new and exciting. Even in her condition she always put others first and never met a stranger. She always liked to talk and tell stories of her life.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Harkey, mother, Irene Harkey, sister, Nerene Seaton (Babe), husband, Eule Howard, son, Lanny Howard and grandson, Gary Howard Jr. She is survived by her children, sons, Terry Howard and Gary Howard; daughters, Pam White and Victoria Howard; grandchildren, Tabatha Bradford, Greg Howard, and Gary and Cheree Oates, Wesley and Ashley White, Gabriel Saldana and granddaughter-in-law, Heather Miller; great-grandchildren, Jesse Bradford, Chance Bradford, Dakota Bradford, Hannah Bradford, and Brandon E. Howard of Brandford, Canada. Ima Jean is also survived by her brother, Jimmie Harkey and famiky and her sisters, Ellen Cope and family and Ramona Thomas and family.
