Jane Zander Obituary

JANE KATHRYN (MEYER) ZANDER

January 21, 1968 July 25, 2021

Jane Kathryn (Meyer) Zander, a devoted mother, loving sister and aunt, and treasured friend, passed away unexpectedly on July 25, 2021. Jane's incredibly outgoing spirit will be forever missed by her family, friends and the Bakersfield community.

Jane was born to Johanna and Fred Meyer on January 21, 1968, in Alameda, California. While still in elementary school her family moved to Bakersfield. Jane would go on to attend East Bakersfield High School where she excelled both academically and athletically. Jane participated in cross-country, swimming, soccer and cheerleading. In the summers, Jane was a lifeguard and taught swimming lessons at Jastro and Jefferson Parks. Her outstanding achievements resulted in her being voted Betty Blade of the 1986 senior class.

Jane graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 1991 with a degree in Industrial Technology. Jane then moved to Long Beach, CA to begin her career at Johnson Controls as a Sales Engineer. She met and married PK Zander and they had their beloved son, Jack in 2001. The family eventually relocated to Bakersfield to be closer to family and friends. Jane had successful careers at Johnson Controls, Skinsation Medical Aesthetics, and most recently with Bakersfield Renewable Fuels.

Jane was an active and vibrant presence in the Bakersfield community and generous with her time and love for all. She volunteered for numerous local organizations, while quietly doing thoughtful things for those she loved. She was kind, funny, and intelligent. Jane had boundless energy. Aside from working and being an active mom, she always made time for friends and family, contributing to community events, gardening, caring for stray animals, and playing with her nephew, Ford. She was very proud of her son Jack, always supporting his tennis pursuits and who has gone on to follow in his moms footsteps by attending Cal Poly.

She had friends everywhere she went and would make new ones by the time she left, including whoever sat next to her at her familys long-time favorite restaurant, Noriegas. She had a smile that lit up the room and an infectious laugh that drew people to her. Her joyful presence, creativity, and loving nature will always be missed.

Jane is survived by her beloved son, Jack Zander; ex-husband and longtime friend, PK Zander; brother Graham (Jennifer) and nephews Ford and Dutch Meyer; brother Chris Meyer; friend Terry Delanty; Aunt Rosemary (Richard) Jordan; Aunt Linda (Bill) Pyle; Uncle Paul (Bernadette) Graham; Uncle Ralph (Virginia) Graham; Aunt Brigette, Cousins: Graham Jordan; Bryan and Joe Graham; Steven and Dawson Pyle and their families; and numerous friends too many to count.

Jane was preceded in death by her mother, Johanna Meyer; father, Fred Meyer; and her cousin, Richie Jordan.

A Memorial Service will be held at Stockdale Country Club on August 12, 2021, at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please carry-on Jane's exuberant spirit in loving those around you, caring for stray animals, creating joy in any situation, and being generous with your time and affection.

My condolences to her family & friends. I will miss Jane. She was my friend during cross-country & she was a great Betty Blade. She made a great cheerleader along with her friends. May she rest in peace. She was likeable. I had a crush on her my freshman year. I felt her loss from inside. May her spirit be received by the angels in heaven.

Meyer Family, Our hearts go out to you in this most difficult time. Losing a loved one is so very difficult! Just know that your Jane was so young to pass, but God just doesn't want all old flowers in his garden. She is in the best hands ever! Much love from the Barnett household.
