Jean Percival Obituary

Jean Percival May 22, 1937 - September 25, 2013 Was born Belva Jean Harvey on May 22, 1937 in Arkansas City, Kansas to Amos and Ruth Harvey. Jean was the youngest of three siblings, having two older brothers, Ted and Miles Harvey. Jean's family moved to the San Diego area and eventually settled in Bakersfield, California. Jean attended East High School and graduated in 1955. From an early age Jean had a extraordinary connection with dogs and, with her German Shepherd, Fang, received many awards and acknowledgments in and out of the show ring. Just prior to graduation from high school, Jean met a young and upcoming artist, Frank Percival and the two were married on September 4, 1955. Together, Frank and Jean had five daughters: Sherry Percival Aal, Karen (Don) Cheatwood, Sandi (Bryan) Murray, Linda "Chris" Hollinger, and Frankie (David) Tyack; 11 grandchildren: Allison Cheatwood- Ruppel, Susan Gannon, Brandy Eggers, Robby Aal, Michael Murray, Matthew Murray, Jeffrey Hollinger, Ashley Hollinger, Zachary, Jason, and Nicholas Tyack; and 9 great-grandchildren: Brianna and Alexander Nusbaum, Brodie Gannon, Nathan Perry, Colton and Carsonne Eggers, Kyren, Trevor and Grayson Aal. Together Frank and Jean owned and operated Wakefield Outdoor Advertising for over 40 years, but Jean always found time to stay involved in various school activities including Standard School's PTA program. Jean served in various capacities, including President, but her legacy was the fantastic Fall School Carnivals she directed at Standard School. Her carnivals were legendary. I can still remember the dozens of beautiful, scrumptious cakes she collected for the popular Cake Walk games! As her daughters grew up and left the nest, Jean was able to again re-connect with her passion - dogs! She began raising Old English Bulldogs. Her pups are scattered throughout the United States and many are grand champions. Jean never met a stranger! She loved to share her stories and experiences with family, friends, and neighbors. We will miss her cheerful phone calls and funny stories about her beloved dogs. We lost Jean to complications from a stroke. Those left to mourn her passing include her husband of 58 years, Frank, her 5 daughters, 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Carol (Bob) Grayson, brother-in-law, Eric (Lynne) Grayson, sister-in-law, Kathleen Percival, and several nieces, nephews, close friends, and neighbors, too numerous to mention, and, of course, her beloved furry companions, Charlie, Mini, Jungle Kitty, Fancy and Honey, who miss her so much. Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Ruth Harvey; her brothers, Ted and Miles Harvey and grandson, Matthew Murray. Mom, you taught us how to live, to laugh, and to love. We will miss your warm smile and soft giggles. Take care of the furkids at the Rainbow Bridge . . . we will see you again and share a warm hug. We miss you and love you so very much Mom! Your loving daughters, Sherry, Karen, Sandi, Chris, and Frankie Jean, thank you for sharing your life with me and for all of the wonderful memories we made together. I love and miss you, until we're together again. Your loving husband, Frank A viewing will be held at Mission Family Mortuary on California Avenue this Monday, September 30th, from 1p.m. to 6 p.m. Graveside Services are Tuesday, October 1st, at 10 a.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary. www.bakersfield.com/obits

Mom, I think of you every day. When I take the dogs outside at night. I look up at the moon and think of you. I know you are looking down at me, and I know its okay. I hope that all is good where you are, and always come visit me. I love it....Please help people understand and enjoy life for today. Please help people smile and be happy, help them understand that life it too short to have anger and madness....if you can mom...I know you know this is true. I love you and I always will. and I will never forget you...You did your best, as we all did......Thank you.....

Dearest Mother - Now that the surreal events of laying you to rest are completed, I am able to stop for a moment and reflect with my heart. You were a great "Mom" and life was fun and crazy! As with all families, sometimes things got a little strained, but I never, ever stopped loving you! We had a wonderful relationship, one that I will treasure forever. I will miss your phone calls and our "babbling" conversations!!! I will miss you every day of the rest of my life - your passing has created a void I will try to fill with warm memories of you, but I will always feel your loss. I will see you again, when the time is right, but until then, rest in peace, sweet Mama of mine. I love you to the moon and back. Your Mickey

To my beautiful Grandma ~ Words cannot express the gratitude I hold in my heart for all the things you taught me. Those lessons, along with your love, I'll carry with me always. I will miss your smile but know that you'll be watching over the family, cheering us on and getting us through the tough times. "Without Grandmas we'd be lost, and our tears would not be dry and we would not be encouraged to spread our wings and fly." This is not where it ends Grandma, for I will see you again...I love you. Your First Granddaughter, Ally.

You were one of the strongest women I know. You raised five beautiful daughters. I know you are at peace now. Another angel has gotten her wings & will be looking down on her family with love.

Aw, Mom, what can I say? I miss you so much it physically hurts. The last two days with you, you taught us so much about life. You were the best and I will carry you in my heart forever and ever. I love you so much. Love, Frankie, the youngest of your daughters and of course the one you would introduce as "the Baby" which would always get an eye roll from me.

My Beautiful Mother, God bless her soul. You have taught your five daughters so many things, but the first is to be strong and fight for what you know is right. You were are strength and you will be missed. Thank you mom, for being the person you were and thank you for giving me life and the knowledge to grow and learn. I love you so much, your third daughter, Sandi
