Jeanette Horton Obituary

Jeanette Horton 1920 - 2012 Jeanette Horton, born 1920 in Long Beach, California, has died Wednesday, September 12, 2012 and gone to Heaven. Jeanette became a Christian at age 30. She remarked that was the age when Jesus began His public ministry. Mom had always thought that since she was born in the US she was a Christian and found out otherwise when she attended church with her mother and father-in-law. Many family members accepted Christ as a result of her decision to follow Him. She became a Christian at former Hillcrest Southern Baptist Church in East Bakersfield. She was a long time member at University Baptist church in East Bakersfield as well. Later she was a committed member of Los Osos Church of the Valley and also Calvary Baptist Morro Bay and Foothill Baptist Church, San Luis Obispo. Her favorite songs were "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "In the Garden" as well as the music from "Tales of the Vienna Woods". She was married to Roy P. Horton, painting contractor, who is also in Heaven. They enjoyed a long marriage in Bakersfield and a lengthy retirement together in Los Osos, California. Their favorite place to travel alone was Lake Tahoe. Jeanette was the youngest of four children. Her three brothers who preceded her were Ralph, Keith and Leonard Parsons. All their families loved her. Her parents were Oscar and Georgia Parsons. She had four children: Jerry from Bakersfield, Deenee from Costa Mesa, and Tim from Mitchell, South Dakota. Jerry had a twin, Larry, who has been in Heaven since 3 days of age. There were 6 grandchildren : Chris and Larry Horton, Joe and Ben Riggs, and Jon and Andy Horton. She also was blessed with great grandchildren. She enjoyed a special 80th birthday in Fountain Valley, California as well as a celebrated 90th birthday in Mitchell, South Dakota. She resided at Firesteel Healthcare in Mitchell, South Dakota since 2005. Jeanette worked for the Pacific Telephone Company for 10 years. She also worked for Hillcrest Realty in East Bakersfield as well as ERA in Los Osos, California. A legacy in her own words is that she was often serving children or the elderly with Christian love. Jeanette taught Sunday school , Vacation Bible School, and did Child Evangelism work at the local fairgrounds. She was a caregiver for her mother as well as her husband. Psalm 91:16 states "With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation." She was a strong woman in the Lord and will be missed greatly. We know where she is! www.bakersfield.com/obits

Grandma was a wonderful woman in the Lord. She loved Jesus and had a heart for people, and to serve. I can remember back in my home school days, her and i walking over to Rite Aid, getting a 5 pound bag of mini tootsie rolls, and then getting an ice cream cone, walking back home and playing some cards till mom got home. She always had a smile on her face and a positive attitude toward life. She will be missed, but we shall see her again someday soon.

I grew up watching my Aunt Jeanette as a loving Mother to Jerry, Deenie and Tim and a very loving daughter to my beloved Grandma Parsons. She was also kind and supportive of me. Jeanette was a devoted Christian showing compassion to all.

Jeanette was my grandma. I'm going to miss the way she was always around the corner with a piece of advice gathered from a lifetime of lessons. I love you Grandma.

At her request in 2001 I have written this obituary notice as well as one for the San Luis Tribune. It was a pleasure as well as an honor to contact special loved ones of hers. She asked that I be sure they knew of her passing into Heaven.
