Jerry Lee Tibbs was one of three children born to Willie Bee Hooks and the only child born to Willie Benjamin Tibbs in 1951 in Bakersfield, California. Jerry accepted Christ at an early age.
He attended the local schools here in Bakersfield and graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1969. He also attended Bakersfield College for one year. Jerry was united in marriage to Debra Allen and to this union two children were born, Latonya Tibbs and Jerry Lee Tibbs Jr.
In 1978 he married Pattie Carroll and to that union Tracy Tibbs was born. He also loved and raised her three children, Michael Carroll, Wandzetta (Carroll) Miller and Ivory Carroll, from a previous marriage and raised them as his own.
Jerry Tibbs started working in high school as a box boy at The Foodtown Market and worked his way up to management. He continued in the market business in Los Angeles where he met Pattie, where they became self employed in 1979. They continued in The Store Business in Los Angeles. They owned and operated several convenience stores, A One-Hour Photo Lab, A Sandwich Shop and A BBQ Restaurant.
Mr. Tibbs and Pattie returned to his home in Bakersfield, California and opened up Mr. Tibbs Ribs in 1987 on Stine Rd. which he owned and operated until God called him home.
Jerry enjoyed his business at the restaurant and loved each one of his employees and loved talking to his customers. He took pride in all that he did at the restaurant, which allowed him the time to golf and ride his Harley, but his passion was in fishing, especially deep sea fishing. His passion for fishing ran so deep that he mentioned to Pattie and to others on several occasions that if the Lord took him home on a fishing trip it would be all right. All that he requested was that his body be cremated and his ashes be spread at sea.
His mother, Willie Bee Woolfolk and stepfather L.C. Woolfolk preceded him in death. He leaves to celebrate his home going, his wife, Pattie Tibbs of Bakersfield, California; children, LaTonya Tibbs of Atlanta, Georgia, Jerry Lee Tibbs of Bakersfield, California, Wandzetta (Carroll) Miller of Bakersfield, California, Michael Carroll and wife Muriel of Torrance, California, Ivory Carroll and wife Kelly of Philadelphia, Pa. and Tracy Tibbs and husband, David of Bakersfield, California; his father, Willie Benjamin Tibbs and stepmother, Cornela of Bakersfield, California; two brothers, Leon Wilson Sr., and his wife Diane and Lee Woolfolk and wife Sharon, all of Bakersfield, California; many aunts and uncles; twelve grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
We will never forget his friendship his love, compassion and smile that he had for others. We will miss you, Husband, Father, Brother and Friend.
