John Henry Jones, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away on August 17, 2024, at WellStar, formerly MCG in Augusta, GA. He was born on December 9, 1950, in Lincoln County, GA, to the late Mr. and Mrs. William and Ruth Ware Jones.
John dedicated over 30 years of his life to Georgia-Pacific Corporation, where he worked tirelessly until his retirement on November 8, 2012. His commitment to his work was matched only by his quiet and low-key personality, which endeared him to many throughout his years with the company.
He attended schools in the Lincoln County Public School System and was a man of strong faith. At a young age, John accepted Christ as his personal savior and became a member of First Baptist Church, where he found community and support. His faith played an integral role in his life and shaped the values he imparted to his family.
John's life was marked by his love for fishing and his deep connections with his family. He was formerly married to Cathy Cullars, with whom he had four children. Later in life, he married Effie Cartledge; they shared more than 15 years together until her passing on June 5, 2002.
John was devoted to his loved ones. He is survived by his daughters, Lanedra Jones of Martinez, GA, Tyronica J. (Jesse) Zellars, of Lincolnton, GA; his sons, Quantus L. (Tracy) Jones of Thomson, GA, and Sanchez Jones of Martinez, GA; and his cherished grandchildren, La'Darren Jones, Tracey Jones, Tamekia Jones, Tavarious Jones, Floyd Norman, Zontario Collier, and Zyara Collier. He also had the joy of welcoming great-grandchildren Landen Jones and Sa'khi Johnson into the family.
In addition to his children and grandchildren, John is remembered by his sisters, Ella Ruth Norman of Lincolnton, GA, and Mary (William) Rivers of Eutawville, SC; and his brother, Bernard (Carolyn) Jones of Augusta, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruth Ware, and siblings, Thelma Jones and Willie James Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and in-laws. John Henry Jones touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed. His legacy is one of love, faith, and devotion to family.
