JOHN MARTINO Obituary

Born February 27, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York to Patricia and Anthony Martino who both preceded him in death. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and St. Peter's High School in Staten Island graduating in 1963.
John worked for the New York Police Dept. briefly and then decided to enlist in the U.S. Navy at the height of the Vietnam war and trained as a jet engine mechanic.
He was an AME2 when he met Vickie Lynn Rockwell AG3. Both were stationed at Norfolk, VA Naval Air Base. They married July 25, 1970 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Bakersfield, CA after their tours of duty. They spent their honeymoon driving a VW across country, site seeing the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park and the Jersey Shore. He then graduated Suma Cum Laude from Staten Island College, then graduated from NYU dental school. During this time his children were born, Tara Lynn Martino and Jason Sean Martino.
John then re-entered the Navy as a Lieutenant serving for a total of 21 years and retired as a Commander. He then began his career as a dentist for the CDCR starting at Corcoran State Prison. After 16 years he retired from Delano's North Kern Regional Center.
John and Vickie enjoyed 47 years of married life with family and collecting memories, cruising the oceans, seas and rivers of the world.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Tara Lynn Martino. He is survived by his wife Vickie; son Jason and his wife Brooke; grandchildren, Sierra Dane Martino, Zachary Martino; great granddaughter, Lillianna; "adopted son", Jimmy and wife Amber, and their children Allie, Chris, Johnny and Michael. He is also survived by his aunt Phyl and uncle Angelo Calato of SINY; his brothers John Martino and wife Judy of Texas, Robert Martino and wife Joan of Wyoming; sister, Joan Springstead and husband Tom of SINY; and many nieces and nephews.

Vickie; No words seem right at this time to express my deepest sympathy to you and your family
There is sacredness in tears; they are not a mark of weakness, but power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition and of unspeakable love Washington Irving
