Larry Harthorn Obituary

Larry "Keith" Harthorn Aug. 10, 1948 - June 10, 2007 Larry "Keith" Harthorn was born in Santa Paula, California on August 10, 1948 to Merle and Tommie Harthorn. He departed this life, as a result of complications due to Valley Fever, on June 10, 2007 in Singapore where he lived and worked for over 14 years. He married Charlotte Wand in August 1968 and was father to Denise, Dwayne, and Paul. He was a grandfather to Krea, Kory, Kaytie, Kinsey and a brother to Dean, Merrily and Chris. Keith attended William Penn Elementary, Emerson Junior High and graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1966. The stainless steel arch and oil derrick in front of the high school was designed by him and was the senior's class gift to the school. He attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo until he was drafted into the Army in 1969. He served with honor and distinction in Vietnam where he was awarded, among other medals, the Bronze Star. He worked for 35 years for Vetco Gray Inc. living in Ventura, California; Houston, Texas; Carencro, Louisiana and Singapore where he was Director of Aftermarket Sells. He holds several patents for his numerous inventions. He was a gifted man who never lost the common touch. He loved his family and this country and he will be missed by those of us who knew and loved him. A private memorial service was held on Sunday, June 17th, and a family and friends reunion is to be held in Keith's memory this Saturday, June 23rd, at the home of his mother and brother.

Dear Hawthorn Family,
I was so sad to read that Keith had passed away. He was one of my favorite childhood friends, from William Penn to Bakersfield High. He was just simply the greatest person and I missed seeing him at our 45th reunion. He will be very missed by those who grew up with him and remember the good old days around Beale Park. I think I have more class pictures with Keith than anyone else. I will always remember him and his great smile.
