LEONARD ANTHONY BACON

June 10, 1931 - March 27, 2022

A long-time resident of Bakersfield, California, Leonard left this earth and entered his next destination on Sunday, March 27th. A devoted husband and father of three, Leonard dedicated much of his life to his country, retiring as a Major in the US Army. Stationed across the world and serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, he was a passionate American who wanted to not only defend the rights of others, but do right by them as well. Along the way, he met and married a young woman in Mexico City who became his wife of 58 years. After marriage and retiring, he committed himself to a life of education, teaching at many colleges and ultimately working as a professor of accounting at Cal State Bakersfield. Loved by his students, he felt education was a foundational right and he instilled the importance of gaining a strong education within his children. A middle-class family, he worked to ensure his two daughters and son could attend strong academic programs and fostered their drive to learn more and do more.

While his country, education, and family were critical to who he was, what drove him was his undying faith in the Lord. Never missing a day of mass, he was dedicated to helping others through the word of God. He served as a communion minister, led prayer groups, and volunteered at Juvenile Hall and to help reform inmates. He taught the importance of being good, doing right by God, and realizing that the gift of forgiveness is one we are given to give.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, son, three children-in-law, and four grandchildren. While missed dearly, his family rejoices in his eternal resting place in heaven.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in his name to the National Alzheimer's Association: https://www.alz.org.

Dr. Leonard Bacon was my accounting professor at Cal State, Bakersfield where I earned my MBA in 1981.
He was very capable professor, giving me as a beginning pastor confidence to manage the finances of my first parish in Taft.
He was not only a capable accounting professor, but he was also a proud husband and father, and a devoted man of Faith.
May he rest in Peace.
