Lucas Dunton Obituary

LUCAS JOAQUIN DUNTON
February 16, 2010 - April 5, 2021

Lucas Joaquin Dunton (Boogie), age 11, died on April 5, 2021 at Los Angeles Medical Center. He passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus surrounded by his family.

Lucas is the son of Rebecca and Kristopher Hamstreet, brother to Chase Hamstreet and grandson of James and Lydia Settles of Bakersfield, CA. Lucas was an absolute joy to be around, he was always so happy and full of kind words. He had a smile and a hug for everyone. Lucas struggled with Kearn-Sayre Syndrome for several years with many complications from the disease but he never let his limitations destroy his spirit. He loved God, his family, and all things Avengers. He loved to play video games with his brother, and board games (mainly Sorry!) with his whole family. He was a Cub Scout at St John's Lutheran Church where he continued to learn about God and serving his community. He loved being able to dance and fence with the League of Dreams. He brought his dramatic flair to both activities with onstage dabbing during the Dance Recital and dramatic falls when he was stabbed during Fencing. Knowing our Lucas, he boogied and dabbed his way to Jesus with his typical theatrics that always brought laughter to everyone.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 19th at 4:00 PM at the family's church, Kern Christian Center. The family will be wearing blue, Lucas's favorite color to the memorial service and we invite guests to do so as well.

We gratefully acknowledge the loving care Lucas received at Kaiser Permanente in Bakersfield and in Los Angeles, Sing Lum Elementary School, Cub Scout Pack 38 and Kern Christian Center.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to one of the organizations that helped Lucas while he was with us, League of Dreams, Cub Scout Pack 38 and Kern Christian Center.

Lucas was one of the best friends I had in our school, we used to play on the playground, talk on the bus and many other heart-warming memories. Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always.

It was my Honor to have met Lucas and his family. When I first met Lucas, He came in for a lab draw, he was scared and I remember assuring him that having blood work wasn't as bad as he thought. I would be as gentle as possible. When we were done, he looked up at me and said..HEY, THAT DIDNT EVEN HURT. That smile he gave me, melted my heart. I was happy to know I had gained his trust. I'm going to miss when he would come in to see us, because he would walk right up and say..HI FRIEND (tears). Seeing his little face smiling and always happy when talking about things he and the family did before coming in to see us. I'm going to miss u friend. You can now use your wings to fly high and keep watching over your family. May you REST IN PEACE my friend. Prayers for the family. I'll miss seeing you in the Lab.

My heart breaks for the entire family of this little man! I never met boog but have heard so much about him from granny that I feel like I have. I pray for healing, for love, for angels to surround your family as you grieve but also smile with all the stories about this little boy! We will all miss them, but I think granny will keep your spirit alive. Many blessing and love to your entire Ohana from ours !

What an absolute honor to be a friend of Luke's! This boy was so full joy and life. Always happy to greet everyone, always inquisitive, and brutally honest - lol. We already miss you, Luke. We love you.

I am a friend of Melissa Settles. I have heard some amazing stories about Lucas and I know him lived a full life pack into a very short time. God is well pleased of him and the love and care you showed him. This world has truly lost a bright angel but he will live on in your heart and all the wonderful memories. You and your family are In my prayers.

There are no words to express how hard his passing has been for everyone who knew him. He was our little ray of sunshine and our world will forever be changed because of him. He is definitely showing off his cool dance moves and dabbing for Jesus. We were so blessed to have had the short time we did with him. No amount of time would have been enough. We just have to take a chapter from his book and make the most of what we have been given. Don’t let anything stop us from dancing to the Macarena in the Bahamas or from shooting spiderwebs to stop our obstacles. He will forever be missed. Until we meet again sweet Lukey. We love you!
