Lucy Mae Newkirk Services: Thurs., 16, 10:00 a.m. Lucy Mae Newkirk, 79, born April 11, 1926; peacefully passed on February 9, 2006 preceded by her youngest son baby boy, Jim Newkirk on October 30, 2003 and 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Her surviving family are son and daughter in-law, Robert and Judith Newkirk of McFarland; son and daughter in-law, Jerry and Anna Newkirk of Bakersfield; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Mike Whitting of Bakersfield; and daughters-in-law, Susan Newkirk and Jennifer Newkirk, both of Bakersfield; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren with one on the way. She was thoughtfully cared for the past two years at the home of and by her daughter, Diane, where she passed. Lucy was a resident of Bakersfield for 65 years. In her younger years she recalled her times with Buck Owens and dancing the Jitterbug, at the Rancho and the Barrel House. Eating was one of her favorite pastimes, Corn Flakes and Buttermilk, biscuits and gravy, and onions and pepper is what I remember. She enjoyed playing cards and doing crossword puzzles. She worked at the Stinson family home for many years as their housekeeper. Grandma will be missed deeply. Graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery on Thursday, February 16, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. Legacy.com
