Melvin Abbott was reunited in heaven with the love of his life, Margie on February 24, 2016.
Melvin was born in Ringold Oklahoma to Viola Dixon and Marion Abbott. The Abbott family moved to Bakersfield in 1948 as a part of the great Dust Bowl migration. Melvin was a hard working, devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He shared his passion for hunting, fishing and all sports with his family.
Melvin is survived by his sisters Nita Bonds of Bakersfield, Betty Wilson of Lancaster as well as his children David Abbott, Donald Abbott (Lana), Donnette (Abbott) Haddad, and Darryle Abbott (Michele) all of Bakersfield. He is also survived by her grandchildren Dale Abbott, Linda Gomez, Dawn Alexander (Greg), Shawn Abbott, Carrie Massie (Jake), Danielle Shankle (Brandon), Crystal Phillips (Brian), Zachary Haddad (Kelly), Chelsea Haddad (Matthew), Ryan Abbott (Mandi), Blake Abbott (Danielle), Nick Bustos, Jake Bustos and Joshua Abbott,11 great grandchildren,1 great-great grandchild along with many loved nieces and nephews. Melvin also leaves behind a wonderful group of family members, lifelong best friends and a multitude of people who were touched by his love and warm heart.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone at Hoffman Hospice along with all the Staff at Bakersfield Rehab Hospital who have cared for Melvin.
Funeral services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 10a.m.
