Mike Parmley Obituary

MIKE PARMLEY

May 26, 1950 – November 7, 2024

Roseville – Mike Parmley was a beloved member of the Bakersfield and Roseville communities. He passed away after a courageous battle with multiple health issues.

He was born in Kentucky to Hershel and Grace Parmley in May 1950. He was the middle of five children. He graduated from High School in Ohio, received his Bachelors' degree from Cal State Bakersfield and his Master's degree from University of La Verne. He joined the Air Force in 1972 and worked as an Avionics Communication Specialist on aircrafts such as B-52s while stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War.

Mike moved to California after his honorable discharge and eventually set up residence in Bakersfield in 1981. He fell in love with computers before computers became a household necessity. He created his own business setting up computer systems for local Bakersfield businesses like Builder's Exchange, MP Vacuum, Skip Hardy Homes and Carney's Office Supply. Mike eventually went to work for Kern County in its IT department for KMC, Mental Health and Probation.

Mike met and married his wife, Michele of 34 years in 1990. They had no children so they enjoyed their time traveling in their RV with amazing friends. When he wasn't RVing, Mike enjoyed meeting his friends at the Burger Hut for a Pepsi, tinkering in his garage and restoring his 1964 Volvo PV 544.

In 2016 after Mike and Michele both retired, they moved closer to Michele's family in Roseville, CA and settled into the Sun City community. They built a beautiful vacation lake house in Lake Cumberland, KY which enabled long visits with Mike's family.

Mike is survived by his wife, Michele, four siblings - Lloyd Parmley, Roy Parmley, Brenda Lana and Debbie Pickering and his 9 nieces and nephews in KY and CA. Mike is proceeded in death by his parents as well as his three dogs, Millie, Bandit and Milo.

He will be buried in the Sacramento National Cemetery in Dixon, CA on January 3, 2025 at 1:00. There will be a Celebration of Life in Bakersfield January 15th. (Please contact Michele for details). In place of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity or Mike's favorite, the USO.
