Neta Mae Maggard
1934 - 2017
Neta Mae Maggard was born October 31, 1934, in Lincoln, Nebraska. She moved to Coalinga, California, as a child, along with her mother, and moved to Bakersfield a few years later. Neta graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1952. On the evening of her graduation, she became engaged to the love of her life, Bill Maggard. They were married in November of that year and remained married until Bill's death in 2008.
As a lifelong Christian, Neta was ready to make the transition to Heaven. On November 26, 2017, Neta passed away at home after a brief illness. There was a party in Heaven that day as she was welcomed into the arms of her Lord, as well as her beloved Bill and the rest of her family who had gone on before her. There was never a more loving, gracious, kind, and caring mother, grandma, and GG. One of Neta's lasting legacies is her example of enduring prayer for her family, as evidenced by her praying for the future spouses of her children and grandchildren, even before they were born.
Left to grieve her loss and celebrate her life are her children, Mike (Mary) Maggard and Donell (Pete) Whiting; grandsons, Jacob (Zoë) Maggard, Andrew (Rebecca) Maggard, Nathan (Bonnie) Whiting, Aaron (Kassee) Whiting, and Grant (Courtney) Whiting; great-grandchildren, Rhys, Elliotte, and Judah; as well as many extended family and friends. We'll miss you, Mom, but look forward to the day we will be reunited with you in Heaven.
Neta's family would like to thank her caregivers, Pat, Martha, Dora, and Elthana; as well as her caring physicians, Dr. Patel, Dr. Abraham, Dr. Maddox, Dr. Hoehne; and Memorial Hospital, along with their extraordinary staff, for the care and comfort they provided her during her final days.
Neta will be buried next to her husband at the Bakersfield National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held for Neta on Monday, December 18, 2017, 2:00 p.m., at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3700 River Boulevard; Bakersfield, CA.
