DAVID ALAN ST PIERRE

June 22, 1963 - September 6, 2022

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of David Alan St Pierre on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, after a strongly fought battle with cancer. He was fifty-nine.

Born in Salina, Kansas to Mary Lee and Roland St Pierre on June 22, 1963, David grew up loving music and singing karaoke. He spent much of his youth in Southern California and marched in the Hollywood Christmas parade during his time as a drum major. In 1979, David and family moved to Lake Isabella, California where he attended Kern Valley High School - Home of the Broncs - and fell in love with theatre and public service. After graduating in 1981, he followed in his father's footsteps and became an electrical engineer working for several companies in Southern California, before becoming the Vice President at American Plating Systems. He eventually found his forever home in Riverside, California where he thrived as a successful businessman, a docent at the historic Mission Inn Museum and served on several community boards and committees including the Chiefs Advisory Board, the Mission Inn Foundation, the Riverside Arts Council, Riverside's Downtown Partnership, Riversides Human Relations Commission and co-founded the Western Inland Empire Coalition Against Hate.

In 1990, David met Peggy Roa, a friend who would change his life, while hosting a Christmas party in his Fontana home. Their friendship grew over the years which led them to choose to become parents together. In 1994, they welcomed their amazing son, Joshua. Josh shares his father's wit, creativity, and passions for cooking, set design, adventure, and travel. David was truly a proud and loving father.

David's greatest business success came in 1999 when longtime friend, Madeline Lee, then owner of The Menagerie - an LGBTQ+ bar and neighborhood haven - sold her bar to David, which he transformed into a Fabulaus experience. His family will continue to preserve the space as a pillar of inclusion for the Riverside community as David would have wanted.

In 2004, David and Peggy established Delights & Invites, a custom invitation and gift boutique in historic Downtown Riverside. Years later, they opened Formal Image, a men's formal wear rental service supporting the Riverside wedding industry.

His passion for the arts led David to co-found and become managing director of the Riverside Repertory Theater, where he produced and directed many shows including Assassins, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story and staged a production of Grey Gardens in his 1800s, Victorian-style home.

David was proud to call Riverside his home. He spent more than three decades watching it blossom and diversify and appreciated the many opportunities the city brought to its residents - many of whom came to know David as a friendly regular at their establishments, as welcomed patrons at The Menagerie, or as audience members in one of the many theatrical productions that he was involved in.

David loved to travel, especially his many trips to tropical Puerta Vallarta, his impromptu trips to nearby casinos and lively Las Vegas with friends - he could spend hours at the blackjack tables, leaving much to luck but enjoying the fact that he was taking the chance to live life to its fullest. His final travels took him to England this past summer to enjoy the wedding of good friends. He enjoyed going to Broadway musicals and entertaining his family and friends in his beloved Riverside, going to Art's Bar & Grill, and never missing the opportunity to cheer for the Dodgers. In recent years, David adopted his beautiful fur baby, Pearl, from The Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center. It was love at first sight - Pearl went everywhere with him and was loved by all.

David's thriving business legacy will continue in Bakersfield with Sans Z'bar, his dream bar and restaurant, a joint venture that will be carried to fruition by his beloved sister, Pamela, who had the unique perspective of looking up to him as a big brother, best friend, and guiding light. Pamela holds onto countless moments of siblinghood with her brother, and shares that his memory will never fade as she continues to bring his vision to life in his honor.

Always thinking of family, before his passing David shared, I really miss my dad. He will join his father, Roland St Pierre, grandmother, Lily Mmre St Pierre and grandparents Ada and Arvil Adams, in heaven.

David is survived by his son, Joshua Roa-St Pierre, Josh's girlfriend Sarah Whitley, good friend, business partner and Joshua's mom - Peggy Roa of Riverside, mother Mary and stepfather J Crowell of Lake Isabella, sister Pamela and husband Richard Vieyra, Jr. of Bakersfield and their children and grandchildren, his beloved baby girl, Miss Pearl, and many, many friends whom he loved and rightfully considered family.

David warmly touched so many lives and will always be remembered as someone who gave so much to others. His life was a journey that we were all a part of, not just a destination. Whether by the remembrance of his deep laugh, or his quick wit, while enjoying a cocktail, or the many ways that he was part of our lives, David will live on in the memories we have of him. May they bring us all comfort and peace in these times and always.

A private graveside service will be held for family and close friends. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 24, from 2p-7p at The Menagerie of Riverside.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in David's name to The Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center in Riverside where he adopted his beloved baby girl, Pearl. https://www.petsadoption.org/
