Rob Ray Lobre III

1949 - 2012

In Loving Memory of Rob Ray Lobre III January 17, 1949 - December 31, 2012 Rob Lobre passed away on New Year's Eve after a struggle with cancer. Born in Bakersfield to Robert Ray Lobre II and Lois Jean Yunker Lobre, Rob attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish School, Garces High School, and Bakersfield College. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lucinda (Luci); his son, Ryan and daughter-in-law, Sara of Kernville; his daughter, Mindy and son-in-law, Brendan McCarthy; and his grandson, Aidan McCarthy of San Jose; brothers, Frank and Tony Lobre; brother-in-law, John Miller; sister-in-law, Debbie; nieces, Erin Miller and Lori Sundgren and her husband, Darin and their son, Devon, all of Bakersfield. Rob was a proud Vietnam veteran, serving in the United States Navy on the USS Jamestown and the USS Midway from 1969 - 1971. Rob spent 47 years in the pipe and steel business and the last 24 years being self-employed. He was a partner at Independent Pipe and Steel and Asbury Transportation. His most recent business was RLI. Rob enjoyed his work immensely and made many great friends in the business. Rob was an avid reader of history and fiction. He could always be counted on to share an interesting historical fact that he had recently read. He enjoyed fishing for trout in mountain streams throughout the West and ocean fishing in Mexico. Both he and his wife loved to travel and shared many adventures together, both around the country and abroad. He also liked spending Sunday afternoons watching football with his family. He loved to target shoot and recently began collecting stamps. Rob was a dedicated friend and family man who was always ready to have a good time. His smile and laughter will be missed by many. A church service will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 124 Columbus St. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Kern County Veterans Services Department or Odyssey Hospice.
