Robert Actis Obituary

ROBERT ROY ACTIS

December 27, 1944 - March 5, 2024

Robert Roy Actis, 79, went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2024. Robert was a wonderful brother, husband, father and Nonno to his family, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Robert was born in San Francisco, California on December 27, 1944, to Aldo and Isabelle Actis. At the age of two, he moved to Bakersfield, CA. Robert attended St Francis School and Garces Memorial High School. As a young man, he worked for his father at The Beacon gas station and bar located at the corner of South Union Ave and Panama Lane.

In 1966, Robert was drafted into the Army due to the Vietnam War. Once in Vietnam he was part of Company B, 2D Battalion, 16th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division. While on a night patrol with the 1st Infantry Division, his unit was hit by an exploding mine. The blast killed his company commander and injured Robert. After recovering from his injuries, Robert received the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1968.

Upon his return to Bakersfield, Robert joined Madruga Electric, owned by his Uncle Mel Madruga, as the very first employee. Robert was always known for being a hardworking and dedicated man to his craft. After 40 plus years he retired as the very last employee along with his brother David.

Robert was an active member of the Sacred Heart Church in Greenfield where he attended regularly and volunteered. He would often be called upon to help with the electrical needs of the church and always worked the annual BBQ. Robert was known for not being an idle man and constantly cleaning around his house or working in his shop.

Robert met Christina in 1968 while out with friends on the town. After a three-year courtship they married on May 20, 1972. During the 51 years of marriage Robert and Chris had 2 boys, Greg and Chad.

The light of Robert's life was being Nonno to Isabella and Reagan. Robert loved to give them rides on the lawn mower and teach them how to cook, especially pies. His granddaughters brought out the best in him.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Christina, his sons, Greg and Chad (Sarah), and granddaughters, Isabella and Reagan, his brother, David (Debbie), his sister-in-law, Patricia, brother-in-law, Steve, along with his niece and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, many uncles and aunts, cousins, and his sister-in-law Gerry.

A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at 9:30 am followed by Mass at 10:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, followed by a graveside at Greenlawn Memorial Park Southwest. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Parkinson's Foundation of California or the Wounded Warrior Project.

The Actis Family would like to thank all the caregivers at The Palms at Saint Lauren in the Memory Care Unit and the nurses from Bristol Hospice.

I loved Robert, he was always happy to see me. He was a great listener. Working together we had a lot to say to one another.
I remember Robert pulling out his front tooth and sticking it on his nose I would laugh hard.
I remember Robert in my parents living room on crutches, just home from Vietnam.
I remember listening to Robert and my Dad talk every night about work on our kitchen telephone. Robert could be heard plainly and he was in Greenfield. Some people lovingly called Robert "WHISPERING BOB"
Robert taught me a lot about our Catholic faith. Robert could easily explain the love of God.
I have my career because of Robert. He hired me to work for my Dad. I worked for Robert everyday for a few years. He taught me everything I know. I swear in those days Mobil Belridge couldn´t make oil without Bob Actis.
My Dad´s customers loved Robert. He was the face of Madruga Electric. The best man, a man´s man, the main man it seemed natural to him.
Robert always! Had my Dad´s best interest in mind. No one treated my Father with more respect and love than Robert Actis that will never be forgotten. My Dad knew it and loved Robert. I loved Robert for that.
MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE AND HE SEE THE GLORY OF GOD

Our condolences to the Actis family. We are so sorry to hear of Roberts passing. He was one great person and we feel privileged to have known him and myself worked with him for so many years. We had great times with our families together. He was always upbeat and willing to help with anything. He will be greatly missed.
