Robert Joseph Duffy Sr.

Robert Duffy Obituary

Robert Joseph Duffy, Sr., passed away peacefully Sunday at home with his immediate family at his side. Robert was born on October 28, 1924, in Haverhill, Mass. He attended Emerson College in Boston, Mass, before embarking on a career in radio broadcast that spanned 45 years as he worked his way across country to reside in Bakersfield in 1961. Robert began as a DJ and radio personality doing play-by-play sports, then attained a first-class radio engineer's license and worked his way into sales and management positions before he joined a partnership that brought him to Bakersfield with KWAC Radio where he stayed until his retirement in 1995. Robert was preceded in death by a son, Robert J. Duffy Jr., a brother, Richard Duffy of Houston, TX, and sisters, Natalie Notargiacomo and Eleanor Lessard both of Newburyport, Mass. Robert is survived by his wife, Joyce, of 59 years; brother, George Washington Duffy of Newburyport, Mass; son, Michael and daughters-in-law, Esther Duffy and Cindy Miller; grandsons, Patrick, Joe and Nathan Duffy and great- granddaughter, Laila Duffy. Robert was an avid semi-professional photographer and was a regular fixture at sporting events in Bakersfield including the Bakersfield Condors where he shared "Team Photographer" duties since the inception of hockey in Bakersfield in 1995. Robert was also the PA announcer in the 60's for the Bakersfield Dodgers and the Bakersfield Kernals Ice Hockey team. Robert published a golf magazine The Kern County Golfer for several years in the 80's and his photos were published numerous times in newspapers across the country. The family would like to thank Dr. Raj Patel, nurse, Summer and the staff at the Preferred Family Care Physicians medical Clinic for their compassion and care of Robert. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. A donation to Hoffman Hospice or your favorite charity in Robert J. Duffy's name is requested in lieu of flowers. The family can be reached via email at [email protected]. Robert Joseph Duffy, Sr. Oct. 28, 1924 - July 30, 2006 Greenlawn Mortuary

Dear Joyce and family:

I was so very sorry to hear of Bob's death. You were always my favorite neighbors on Blade. It seems the years have moved on much to quickly, but sweet memories will always be with us.

We are currently out of town, but would love to see you and will try to stop by when I am back. Bob was a great guy and you were always such a great couple.

May God comfort you and yours.

Duffy Family,

I only knew Bob for a year having worked with him at the Condor Games, yet everytime I saw him he looked as if he was a kid again seeing a hockey game for the first time. Bob enjoyed the games and he was a pleasure to work with. I really liked it when he would come up to me and tell me about the players on our team or the other that grew up in Massachusetts, and how he sat and had talks with them before games or invited them out to lunch to just chat. He was a man who was loved by all that met him and he truly enjoyed the work he did. I will miss him a lot in this upcoming season, and I wish nothing but the best for Michael, Esther, and the entire Duffy family as we feel that here in Condorstown, we have lost one of our biggest supporters.

Aunt Joyce and Cousin Mike,

We are very sorry to hear about your lose. Uncle Bob was well respected and much loved by everyone. Not only are we honored to have known him, but we treasure the fact that he was our uncle. We will certainly miss our phone calls with him. To listen to his deep, raspy and intelligent voice was certainly an enjoyment.

We have always cherished the memories of our trip to Bakersfield several years ago, but those have now become treasures.

Please find comfort knowing that Uncle Bob was greeted with open arms in Heaven by God and his loved ones.

---Psalm 23---

Love Steve, Stacy, Richard and Steven
