ROBERT FILLMORE SHUGART, JR.

March 20, 1939 – November 16, 2025

On November 16, 2025, Bobby Shugart, 86, went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, following a brief illness. Bobby was born to Robert and Lillian Shugart on March 20, 1939 at the Los Angeles General Hospital. During the War, the family moved many times throughout California and the Western United States as his father followed war construction as a union carpenter. The family finally settled in eastern Kern County in 1945, living in Actis, half-way between Mojave and Rosamond. Bobby attended Mojave schools and graduated from Mojave High in 1957. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Electrical Union, Local 428, out of Bakersfield, where he worked until 1998.

In 1964, Bobby married his life-time sweetheart and love of his life, Wilma (Costilow) until they were separated by her death in 2019. Bobby and Wilma moved to Tehachapi in 1967, where they remained in the same home until their deaths. Together, Bobby and Wilma raised two boys, Robert Fillmore Shugart III (wife Michelle and children Kaylee, Robby, Ashby, Makenzie, and Bethany), and Jonathan Lee Shugart (wife Ami, and children, Jonathan, Jonah, and Jacob).

Bobby was a devout Christian, who put his hope and trust in the finished work of the Cross, and loved Jesus with all of his heart. He was a member of Christian Life Assembly for over 50 years, and raised his Family in the ways of the Lord. Throughout his life, Bobby modeled the virtues of honesty, humility, love, and hard work for his children. He was known as a man of his word and taught his sons what it really means to be a man of integrity, and a loving and devoted husband and father. For this, his family will forever be grateful.

Bobby's death is a profound loss to his family and we will forever miss his wisdom, his guidance, his companionship, and his kind, gentle dignity. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Bobby is survived by his sister Linda (Mel) Langford of Mojave and sister Barbara (Mike) Bannister of Bakersfield. He was pre-deceased by his sister Betty Bixby of Mojave in 2019.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on December 5, 2025 at Christian Life Assembly in Tehachapi. Internment will be at the Tehachapi West Side Cemetery.
