Ron was suddenly taken from us on March 8, 2011. After being schooled in Chicago, Ron entered the Seminary of the Vincentian Fathers in Lamont, Illinois. In 1962 Ron entered the U.S. Army where he became a Nike missile expert. Ron was stationed in Florida during the Bay of Pigs invasion and subsequently was sent to Bremerhaven. Germany. Upon completion of his military service he met and married Karen Johnson on June 25, 1966. Karen survives Ron along with their children, Derron (Michele) DeRouin of Prescott, Arizona, and Heather (Carl) Bruening of Irvine, CA, grandchildren, Alyssa and Dane DeRouin of Prescott, AZ, and Logan Bruening of Irvine, CA; three sisters, Beverly Novak of Crestwood, IL, Donna Bivona of Alsip, IL, and Patty Terrill of Albuquerque, NM, along with many nieces and nephews. Ron also leaves his beloved dog and side-kick of 14 years, Sam. Ron and Karen started their life together in Chicago, Illinois, where Ron was employed by Maryland Cup Corporation; he soon moved down-state to Bishop Hill, Illinois, where he worked in construction and dabbled in raising cattle, hogs and started his long love of collecting antique cars. During a drought in construction Ron brought his family to Phoenix, Arizona, for several years before relocating to Bakersfield. Ron was employed by Colombo Construction and Wallace and Smith Construction until his retirement in 2009. A memorial service will be held at Doughty-Calhoun O'Meara Chapel, 1100 Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield, CA, at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, March 12. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to CALM, 10500 Alfred Harrell Highway, Bakersfield, CA 93306 or Bishop Heritage Association, P.O. Box 92, Bishop Hill, IL 61419. Interment will be at a later date at the Bakersfield Veterans National Cemetery. Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara www.bakersfield.com/obits
