Sara Abromaitis Obituary
December 6, 1948 – October 5, 2025
Sara Elizabeth Dunbar was welcomed into the world on December 6, 1948 She was born at Highland Hospital in Belvidere, Illinois. Waiting for her at home was her sister Melissa and her brother Jed. Sara loved her sister and brother very much and was Aunt Sisi to her nieces and nephews. Second only to her family was her love of teaching. When she retired from teaching at Bakersfield City School District, she took with her years of precious memories. Her friendships with fellow teachers were special and lasting.
In 2002 Sara married the love of her life, Stan Abromaitis. Stan brought to the marriage two lovely daughters, Sonia and Stephanie. Her heart overflowed with love for her new family. Sara and Stan traveled extensively throughout the United States visiting family and friends. They especially enjoyed ocean cruising and had several wonderful adventures at sea. When they weren't traveling afar, they managed many excursions to Las Vegas where they enjoyed gambling and attending shows.
On the homefront they dined with good friends L.D. and Judy Hunter and Lenore and Joe Wilson. Sara also played Bridge and participated in a Birthday Club. Sara was a charter member of the Golden Valley Women's Literary Society, her book club. She was the recording secretary for 35 years.
Sara slipped away peacefully on October 5, 2025, leaving behind her beloved family and friends. An Open House in her honor will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025 from 2 to 4 P.M. in the Redwood Room at Rosewood Retirement Community, 1301 New Stine Road, Bakersfield, California.
