Stephen Peck Obituary

STEPHEN FREDERICK PECK

September 9, 1947 November 1, 2023

Stephen Frederick Peck passed away November 1st, 2023 in Los Angeles, California following a brief illness. Steve was born September 9th, 1947 in Cortland, New York to Ruth and Fred Peck. Steve's earliest memories were of playing baseball in the fields near his Riverside home. An athlete, Steve excelled in baseball, basketball, and football in school and graduated from Corona High School in 1965, where he earned nine varsity letters. He attended the University of California-Riverside where he played both football and baseball, holding the record for 17 career interceptions. He graduated with a BA in Economics, History and PE. Steve had a successful career in athletics as an assistant Athletic Director at UC Riverside, a running back coach, and recruiter at Utah State, and then as Head Football Coach at Porterville College in California. Steve mentored his young players with love and strength and was a father-figure to many.

A pivotal moment in Steve's life occurred one summer when he met Georgia Lynn Bookout on the campus of Utah State. Steve knew his life's ambitions would forever be changed by this fortuitous meeting. The two began traveling between two states to spend time together. Steve's persistence paid off when the two married in Bakersfield, California in 1978. A kind and devoted husband, Steve was willing to support Georgia in many professional goals. The relationship the two share was nourished by their common interests; Steve loved the arts and Georgia loved Football. It was a match made in heaven and sustained their marriage of 45 years. Steve worked to make Georgia's life easier in every way.

The family was complete following the birth of two daughters, Myka in 1981, and Tiler in 1989. Steve was overjoyed with the blessing of being a father to his daughters. The quintessential girl dad, Steve nurtured close relationships with his daughters; listening to them, loving them, and spending all his time with his family. He maintained this loving support as he transitioned to a new profession in automotive management in Bakersfield. Steve was good with people and was a successful Manager.

Oldest daughter Myka cherishes the summer training sessions her Dad had with her during the years she played collegiate soccer. On the day of her wedding, Steve was the only one present that knew how to iron her wedding gown. Steve preferred family life to pursuing any other interest. On a special occasion, as Tiler and Steve sat in the audience watching The Nutcracker, Tiler said, Daddy, I am going to dance on that stage someday. Tiler remembers that her Dad had listening ears and encouraged her in this goal. His support was critical for Tiler as she became the Principal Dancer for the New York City Ballet. Despite his pride in the successes of his children, Steve was a quiet and reserved man.

In later years Steve kept busy sharing in the housework and was proud of his garden, he especially loved decorating the home during the holidays. Steve is survived by his wife Georgia, Daughters Myka and Tiler, his Mother-in-law Princess, and Myka's husband Cullen Chambers. We are comforted in the knowledge that our beloved husband and father was received into his heavenly home to await a happy reunion with each of us.

Services will take place December 4th, 2023 at Greenlawn Mortuary on Panama at 2 pm, viewing at 12 noon.

Just learned of Steve's Passing. Most sincere condolences to the family, friends, and others that knew Steve. I was on a couple of baseball teams with Steve at Corona High School, and I remember him as a fine athlete and serious competitor. Rest in peace fellow classmate and team member.

I remember Steve well. I believe he & I were in classes together in 3rd grade through graduation in Corona, Calif schools.
He was smart, kind, and handsome. I really enjoyed knowing him.

I grew up along with the other kids in the neighborhood (Coronita) in Corona with Steve. He was older 7+ years but was a mentor to all the kids. When Steve was in high school all the kids loved to see him. During summer time the kids would wait to hear when Steve would come out and whistle (really loud) which meant we could come over to his house and go swimming. Sometimes we would have to sit in his den first and watch American Bandstand and once it was over we got to go swimming. He would hit fly balls to all the kids in the street and even put on boxing matches once in awhile. He had a VW bug and at times when he took us somewhere he would let us shift it, very cool when you are young. Steve really meant a lot to the neighborhood and I had often wondered what happened to him and his brothers Allen and Richard. I have many memories of Steve that I will never forget even though he was eight years older than me. Thank you for the wonderful times.

Steve joined our family when he married cousin Georgia. He came to us as a bright, well educated young man. We watched Steve transition into an awesome family man, well respected coach, and excellent in automotive sales and management. Steve had the ability to be the best in any endeavor he chose. The success of the Peck family: Myka and Tyler was due to the dedication, drive, and encouragement of Steve, however the finger prints of Georgia are all over the success of the whole family ! Myka and Tyler were created by two people successful in their own right. Blessings on you, Georgia, Myka, and Tyler, and Princess

Hearing this news of Steve's passing hit me hard, especially knowing it was so recent. I had know Steve for over 30 years, first as a customer of his at 3 Way Chevrolet where we first developed our friendship and later worked with Steve at Sangera and Holiday Ford. I moved down to Mexico over 20 years ago and had thought about looking Steve up on my next trip north to Bakersfield, planned for a few months from now. Unfortunately, I put it off for too long and I will always regret that.

My sincere condolences to you Georgia and your two girls. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Save a place for me Steve,I will be looking for you when my time comes amigo...

My heart breaks for the Peck Family. Where do I start??? Steve was such a great husband, son-in-law and father. I have many fond memories of how much he supported Georgia when I worked for them at Princess Studio. Steve was so proud of his girls, watching both girls dance. When his three girls did a surprise trio at the end of a recital it really touched him. You could see Steve´s BIG smile on his face and twinkle in his eyes. He was so proud! Being a sports man, he was thrilled that Myka played soccer and tennis. He was proud of her when she attended LMU and enjoyed catching her collegiate soccer games. He also loved watching Tiler perform on stage. He knew from a young age she had a special talent and was born to dance, such a proud Daddy, and yet always humble. I remember one night going to their house with my daughter as I was dropping Myka off we went Christmas shopping. Steve insisted we stay and have dinner as he had picked up a plethora of items from Taco Bell for dinner. He was always thinking ahead knowing we would all be hungry after a visit to the mall. And as a customer of Steve´s when we bought our truck he made sure we were always well taken care of. He even told me anytime we need to bring the truck in for a service, we were welcome to borrow his vehicle as long as he was going to be in the office that day. Luckily, we never had to take him up on his offer as service was always quick. Steve will be missed by all whom he crossed paths with and especially his family. Praying for Georgia, Princess, Myka and Tiler as I know he has left a humongous whole in their lives and hearts.
Love to all during this difficult time.
