Memorial services for Steven Dewayne Goodwin "Steve" will be held at Olive Drive Church on Friday afternoon, March 10, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. A reception will follow.
Steve was born July 14, 1953 in Bakersfield to Delmer and Ruth Goodwin at Mrs. Friese's Hospital. Steve lived in or near Bakersfield all of his life. He was a 1971 graduate of North High School and he went on to graduate from Reedley College. Steve was active in Beardsley Band, North High Band, marching Band and the California State Honor Band. He loved music and played and composed all of his adult life.
Steve learned to fly with his father Delmer as a young teen and made his first solo flight at 16. The family took many flights up the Alcan Highway to Alaska. He continued his love of flying by becoming a Crop Duster at age 19 working for Inland Cropdusting several years and since 1979 at Wheeler Ridge Aviation.
Steve married his wife, Becky on March 31, 1985 and became the stepfather of Timothy Zucker. Steve loved travel and spent many trips in Mexico, Central America and Tahiti scuba diving, exploring ruins and jungle and fishing with his wife. They made many life long friends in their travels. Steve accepted Jesus and was baptized in 1998 and he attended the Olive Drive Church where he formed many close friendships.
Steve is survived by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Goodwin; stepson, Timothy Zucker; mother, Ruth Goodwin; sister, Brenda Taylor and brother-in-law, Skip Taylor of Escondido; their children, Tanya and Bryan; their spouses and children; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Valeria and Neil Marshall; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Janet and Dwaine Canova, Rick and Michele Marshall, Karen Marshall and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Delmer Goodwin.
Steve battled Hodgkin's Lymphoma for 12 years and he went peacefully into the presence of his Heavenly Father. Special thanks to all of Steve's co-workers, Jerry Smith, Darvin Boles, Rick Trani who all have been there through thick and thin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Steve's name to Olive Drive Church Missions, 5500 Olive Drive, Calvary Bible Church Benevolent Mission, 48 Manor Drive or North High School Band Program, 300 Galaxy Avenue.
