Sylvia White Obituary

SYLVIA C WHITE

October 15, 1943 January 11, 2024

Bakersfield My beloved mother passed away on January 11, 2024. She was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on October 15, 1943. The family moved to Florida when she was seven. She moved to Bakersfield in 1978 where she attended Bakersfield College and CSUB where she received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Master's degree in counseling. She worked as a Marriage Family Therapist for 35 years and taught at the University of Phoenix.

She loved adventure. She held a single engine pilot's license, been skydiving, and traveled the world.

Sylvia was predeceased by her parents Norman and Barbara Clewell, her brothers Jerry and Lee Clewell, her son Gary Hauman, and her beloved husband Darrell White.

She is survived by her daughter Tammy Hauman, stepsons Rick and Larry White, sisters-in-law Nina and Diane Clewell, grandsons Chase and wife Lauren White and Cole White, granddaughter Sarah Grijalva and five great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held February 10, 2024 at Hodel's from 12:00 - 3:00. All are welcome.

Sylvia was so classy and cared deeply for her patients, students, coworkers and friends. If you knew Sylvia, she treated you like family and made sure you knew she saw you and would help whenever you called. She took pride in her work and it showed. She took a fledgling program and turned it into one that I and many others can be proud to have been a part of. Part of her legacy is the many new Marriage and Family Therapists whom she nurtured and added to the field. She will be missed beyond measure, but I hope your family takes comfort in your many memories of her. Her wings were ready, but our hearts certainly were not.
