Troy Childers Obituary

Troy Lee Childers 1938 - 2011 Troy Lee Childers, born on June 22, 1938, in Arvin, California to Julia Belle Gipson Childers and John Thomas Childers, Sr., passed away November 22, 2011, from heart complications. Troy grew up a child of the Dust Bowl in the Lamont area, where he established many life-long friends. Upon graduating from Arvin High School in 1956, he became an owner/operator of The Fireball Service Station. In 1964, Troy expanded the business to include Troy's Towing, which he owned and operated until 1983. At age 46, Troy went back to school as a student at Bakersfield College. He graduated with honors in 1985 and was accepted to The Channel Island School of Law the following year. Troy received his Juris Doctorate Degree and passed the bar exam in 1990, and was off and running in his second career as an attorney. Troy loved the challenges and responsibilities associated with being an attorney and had great admiration for all in the legal profession. Troy was always proud to be a resident of Kern County and was very active in many social and service clubs. He was a long time member of the Kern County Sheriff's Reserves as well as a past president of the Oildale Lions Club and the Bakersfield Classic Thunderbird Club. Troy's love of automobiles led him to race stock cars for many years and he sponsored many drivers who went on to have great success in various divisions of stock car racing. Troy was a proud member of the California Bar Association, and his love of the law lead him to act as legal advisor to the Mock Trial Club at North High School for many years. Troy's gift of the gab made it easy for people to talk with him, which he enjoyed. Troy had a strong work ethic that served him well throughout his life, something that he and his brothers and sisters inherited from their parents. Troy Childers was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John Jr., James and David, and sisters, Maxine, Jennie and Bettie. He is survived by the true love of his life, Allene, his wife of 42 years; daughter Pam and husband Mark Neal, daughter Stephanie and husband Brian Stewart, and daughter Kelley and husband Matt Lee; brother Bob Childers and sisters Nadine Harris and Ruth Danley; and ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2011, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd. Services will be held at the same location on Friday, December 2, 2011, at 2:00 pm. www.bakersfield.com/obits

I had the pleasure of working with Troy when he graduated Law School and we remained friends. He was a conscientious attorney who always gave his all for his clients. I just ran into him at the car wash a couple of weeks ago and had a lengthy conversation about what he'd been up to since the last time we spoke and, of course, his cars. He was always a pleasant, honest and genuine person and I know I am a better person for knowing him. Thanks for being you Troy. My condolences go out to his family.

My father, Larry Kleier, introduced me to Troy in 1977 when I was 15 years old. I had recently purchased a wrecked '67 Mustang and I needed parts. Over the next year I made many trips back to Troy's Tow yard to pick parts. Fast forward 20 years, I'm a lawyer back in Bakersfield and I encountered one of the great pleasures of practicing law in Kern County, Troy Childers! I loved to chat with Troy and listen to his stories of growing up, my father and, of course, cars. I will truly miss Troy as will the people of Kern County whom he served faithfully his entire life.

Uncle Troy will be missed. He took care of an entire family, extended family, and many friends. The one thing that he never ever did was judge any of us, but he always was there to help all of us. Rest in Peace Uncle Troy we will all miss you very much.

I will truly miss you Troy! You were the best boss I have ever had. Not only that I can proudly say you were one of the best friends as well. I will never forget our early morning chats, having breakfast, riding to Lerdo to meet with clients, our weekly lunches, your stories, your laugh. It was a privilege and honor to work with you the last seven years. I can never express how much I loved and cared about you. I will always remember and be thankful to you for giving me the chance to be who i am today. You will be missed and loved always

We will miss Troy's smiling face so early in the morning here at Sultze Chiropractic Office. He always came with a big smile on his face and flowers in his hands which always brightened our day.

I first met Troy Lee in 1976 while he owned the towing business . We became good friends and we remained good , close friends all these many years . I helped him with his race cars and I had a lot of fun together with his family . We would race at Riverside International Speedway and the old Ontario Motor Speedway and Mesa Marin .
He would call me from time to time and tell me to meet him for breakfast at the car wash on Saturday morning or would ask me for some help with a project of his .
With the many , many years of friendship with T.C. , I will truely and honestly miss him . I will never forget what his friendship meant to me .
Rest in peace T.C.
