VIRGINIA DOLCH HALE

October 5, 1926 – August 10, 2024

Bakersfield – Virginia was born October 5, 1926, to Henry and Lillie Dolch. She grew up in Bakersfield, California graduating from Bakersfield High School. In 1945 she married Byron Hale (her handsome Marine she would say) and were married 44 years before his death in 1989.

Virginia worked 30+ years for Walter Mortensen Insurance (formerly Wally Beardsley Insurance) as a bond underwriter. She was an avid bowler, and this was one of the highlights of her week. She was in two bowling leagues a week until she was 92. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards. She looked forward to Tuesday hair day and Friday night dinners at La Tapatia where she said they treated her like family. Sunday dinners or any occasion just to be with family always made her feel blessed.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Byron, parents Henry and Lillie Dolch, brother Robert Dolch, sister Frances Steele and her daughter Nancy Jones. She is survived by her daughter Linda Haskell (Randy), daughter Susan Phelps, grandchildren Michael Sweeney (Sarah), Sharie Sweeney, Christy Partain, Amber McAfee (Jason), Lori Jones and Brian Phelps. Great-grandchildren Quentin Jones-Canales, Madyson Partain, Sabrina Crotts (Austin), Mason Partain, Julia Phelps, Paytin Canales, Ronan Sweeney, Max Partain, Sawyer Phelps, Ben McAfee, Allyson McAfee and great-great-granddaughter Penelope Crotts. She also leaves behind her faithful cat Babe.

Per her request there will be no services. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

A special thank you to Brookdale and Hoffmann Hospice for their excellent care and comfort she received.

I am so lucky to have known her. I´m so sorry she´s gone. I will always remember her smile and brightness she brought into the room when she arrived anywhere.

My sister and I weren't related by blood, but Virginia always insisted we call her Grandma Hale. I remember her including us to swim with our siblings and their cousins. Divorce and Remarriage is difficult, but Grandma Hale was always loving and kind to my sister and me. She was such a lovely woman, inside and out.
