Services: Friday, August 8, 11 a.m.
At 11:00 a.m., on Friday, August 8, 2003, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd., family and friends will gather to commemorate the life of William Martin Fendrick. Marty died at home in Orlando, Florida on July 26, 2003, of complications from Diabetes.
Marty was a career time-share salesman who leaves legions of friends across the country. The nomadic nature of his vocation and of his very spirit took him to most states of the union to work, to live, to love and to play.
Marty was an avid fisherman and an accomplished golfer; activities which, to Marty, were not merely sport or pastimes but were passionately elevated to the status of Art and were truly his lifes blood.
Raised in Oildale, Marty attended Highland Elementary, Standard Junior High and graduated from North High in 1969. He played on the golf team at North and was a member of the 1966 SYL Championship Team. Marty attended Bakersfield Junior College for one year before joining the military. Marty served with honors in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1974, leaving the service as a Sergeant (E-5). After the Army, he attended Western Washington State College in Bellingham on the G.I. Bill.
Marty received his real estate license in Washington and held similar licenses in California, Texas, Florida, the Carolinas, and New York. His final year in the time-share industry was with Marriott Grand Vista in Orlando where he leaves many close friends and associates.
Marty is preceded in death by his parents, William and Thelma Montel Fendrick. Surviving Marty are his children, Catherine Elizabeth of Orlando, Bryan Richards of Temeluca, California; his brothers, Randy of Bakersfield, Chuck of Wallace, Idaho, David of Temecula and his sister, Carole Hearn of Danville, California.
Marty had a lust for life and an indomitable spirit. To the end, he remained passionate, loving and always optimistic. He will be missed by all.
Immediately following the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, friends and family of Marty are invited for food and drinks and Marty stories at the Kern County Firefighters Union Hall, 3615 Mt. Vernon Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the North High Golf Team.
No visitation is scheduled.
