In catching up with old friends in the Dundalk area, I thought of our family doctor, Dr. Sollod. So sorry to read of his passing some years ago. I really enjoyed reading his patients' comments & really felt that all of us were a part of his family. Many times I'd ask my mom to stop at the Dundalk bakery to get him 1 chocolate donut which he gladly accepted. Once, as a small child I was in the hospital; I remember waking up & he was also asleep in the visitor's chair by my big, scary hospital bed. I reached out my hand; he woke up, cleared his throat as the nurse was coming in. He announced to the nurse that he "stopped by for a visit to see if I was being cared for correctly". It seems that physicians like Dr. Sollod are no longer "made". My family & I were so fortunate to have him care for us. Belated condolences to his family & much love & thanks for sharing him with many of us.

Dr. Sollod was the family doc for at least 4 generations of my family. And i remember him making house calls. One very early memory: my brother & I were about 4-5 years old, and we were sitting on the exam table thing with my mom. i think maybe we all were getting a shot or a physical? Dr. had us do the 3 monkeys thing to lighten up the atmosphere! I didn't know him well but my family all spoke of how wonderful he was.

I am sorry to hear of Dr. Sollod death. I remember as a little girl my Mom had taken me to see Dr. Sollod so many times she told me that we bought his blue cadillac and when I saw him for an illness I told him that and he laughed. He was such a wonderful caring person and the best doctor I have ever seen.I took my children to see him until we moved away in 1984 and still drove an hour for awhile before we switched to someone closer. He always tried to get me to quit smoking for years and I finally did about 10 1/2 years ago. I wish I had know about this sooner and would have at least paid my respects in person. My mom was Anne Moreau and when she died at the age of 56 he was very shaken. Dr. Sollod took care of our whole family and delivered oldest my sister and brother.

To the Sollod family. My sincere sympathies are with you. He was one of the last true doctors. He stopped in at our wedding on 2/8/1964 and said that he had just delivered a baby boy and patted my cheek for good luck and 10 months and one day later he delivered our son. He was the greatest and is missed.

I was just talking about Dr. Sollod with my husband this past weekend. I am so sorry to hear of his passing and send my deepest sympathy to the family. Hershey I remember the bust of you as a small boy that was displayed in the waiting room. Dr. Sollod delivered me too, in 1945, and took care of me and my children until his retirement. Over the years he was always encouraging me to stop smoking and telling me all the things it would do to me. When he told me I was pregnant I quipped, "Hmm, I'm surprised you're not blaming that on smoking too!" :-)

I also remember the little notice he had under the glass on his desk. A patient had written in to Reader's Digest lamenting the fact that the Appolo rocket had made several completions of earth while he still sat in Dr. Sollod's waiting room. It was always a long wait to see him, and always well worth it.

P.S. I am a non smoker, finally!

Dr. Sollod delivered me (and my twin brother, Jim) on Sept. 23, 1937, at the now defunct SBGH, at Light and West Sts. A year later, again on Sept. 23rd, he delivered my sister, Bridget. My mother thought he was the greatest thing in two shoes. She kidded that he gave her a two-for-one sale on the twins. He also delivered my other four siblings. Dr. Sollod was part of the old South Baltimore, which I remember with fondness. He was born to be a doctor and he loved what he was doing, which I think is a fantastic blessing. From time to time, I would see him at the Baltmore Symphony, with his wife, and it was always a pleasure to greet him and share some thoughts about the old neighborhood. Dr. Sollod was one of the best and a credit to his profession. My deepest condolences to his family on their loss. (RIP)

My deepest sympathy to the Sollod family,

I was Doctor Sollod's asthma baby. I cannot remember how many days I spent in the Fort Avenue office. It was amazing how just seeing Doctor Sollod made me feel so much better.

Doctor Sollod cared for our entire family. I remember the day he told me he was retiring. I carefully explained to him that would not be possible as I had two young children and no one else could care for them the way he could. I can still hear him laughing. To this day, no other doctor can take his place.

Doctor Sollod, I miss you dearly.

To the entire Sollod family:

Dr Sollod delivered me on 2/22/1951, 55 years ago today. Once, he told me jokingly that he was the very first person to see me, even before my mother. Dr Sollod cared for me through a bout of polio and protected me from unnecessary and painful medical procedures. When he saw me walk for the first time as I was recovering, he cried. He cared for my grandparents, my parents, my aunts and uncles, my numerous cousins, my sister, and my first born. He kept in touch with my family even after he retired. He called us at home when my mother died and again when my father died. He even tracked me down several years ago when he was cleaning out his home office and found a photo of my son. He was our family doctor, but he was also our friend, traveling with us through all life's major milestones. I learned a lot from him, not only about health, but also about how to live a life of commitment and compassion. He always talked lovingly about his wife and children. My heart grieves with yours at his passing. He was an extraordinary man!

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Dr. Sollod, but I knew much about him through family stories of illnesses and accidents. From what I've heard of his compassion, integrity and personal interest in his patients, it's a shame we don't have currently practicing doctors as outstanding as he was. Dr. Sollod will absolutely be missed by the Hooper and Miles families.
